Summary

Claire Gracen's life is picture perfect. Her career as a marketing director is on the brink of being legendary, and her marriage to her high school sweetheart has never been stronger. No, wait. It has. It used to be amazing and fulfilling, but one day Claire realizes that she's been living a lie and her best friend and husband have committed the ultimate betrayal. Broken and depressed, Claire is in need of something new - new city, new job, new friends. When she happens to attract the interest of the sexiest man she's ever met, a man significantly younger than her, she immediately turns him down - only to later discover that this man is Jonathan Statham, self-made billionaire and CEO of Statham Industries. Her boss.

Jonathan Statham is unlike any man she's met before. He's used to getting whatever he wants - whenever he wants, and he isn't about to take no for an answer.

Great context of older woman, younger man

Give me a read about forty-somethings and I'm in, it's such a tangible, refreshing context for me. I felt totally engaged with MID LIFE LOVE because it also included a favourite setting of mine....office romance. This book is about a 40 year old divorcee who has lost herself in her heartache of the last 4 years. Claire is incredulous at the attentions of Jonathan Statham, her 28 year old boss and CEO of the company. She cannot understand his attraction to her and thwarts each of his approaches.

This book is rich with fabulous side characters in Claire's daughters, they made me laugh and brought such tangibility to the storyline. I never felt like I knew where the story was going and this was such fun to devour. The many twists and turns kept me hooked even though I felt the last 5% was rushed. All the characters were well developed and the writing just flowed. I need more from these two and I hope my desire is fulfilled

Good But ...

OMG, could the male narrator have been any worse? It’s s good story and the female narrator was great but the male part sounded like he was just learning how to read! Painful!!

I hate the female lead

She would have to be one of the worse females ever. Why on earth any guy would try and want her is unbelievable. What a joke when she calls Jonathon immature, she really needs to look in the mirror.

Better

Whitney G. strikes again! I've been wanting to read this for a long time and I really REALLY enjoyed it! Damn, I love this author's books so much! I fell in love with her Reasonable Doubt series and dirty-mouthed Andrew and now she made me love Jonathan too (not as much as Andrew though! lol He still is my favorite!). My fav quote from the book is “Forgiveness is what happens when you can honestly move past something and let it go. Stupidity is what happens when you tell someone “I forgive you” (because it’s the “right thing” to do), but you secretly hope they drop dead right in front of you and tumble into the seventh circle of hell.” ― Whitney G

if you like pathetic, whiney females...

The last third of the book was awful. I kept fast forwarding. The female character was immature, whiny and terrible. The male narrator's voice was not right for this at all and was truly cringe-worthy.

I like it but....

The story in and of itself is good, however, Claire us so freaking ANNOYING!! Ok, yeah, he's 11 years younger, so what?! He's 28 years old! I could understand the angst if he was 18. Jonathan has is a freaking billionaire and her superior, but she wants to say he's immature? If anyone is childish and immature in this story, it's Claire! So many times I just wanted to slap the crap out of her! AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!! The male narrator sucks. The female narrator's male voice was so much more sexy than the male's. He was robotic and unsure.

Lackluster narration

CJ Bloom is SO GREAT it makes August James narration sound flat, lifeless and boring without inflection
or real emotion.

Dragging on

I needed up skipping the last fifteen chapters of the book. It just seem to drag on too long. The female narrator sounded like a teenager and the male at times sounded as if a computer program was translating the words. I had added the second book to my library but won’t be listening to it.

Blech not something to make you swoon

Dude is a creep. A huge creep. The age difference makes it weird too and I'm 40 so its not like I'm opposed to 40 year olds.
