Summary
Parker DuPont is a family man, with a wife, three children, and sister. As happens to many men Parker’s age, he faces the mid-life thing, and decides he wants to hang his own shingle, rather than spend the next 20-plus years as a St. Petersburg police detective. Private investigator sounds very appealing, and so off he goes into the private world to become his own boss.
Listeners of Parker DuPont, PI, have enjoyed Parker’s humor as well as that of his quirky kids and his school-principal wife, whose pastime involves paints and brushes on canvas. Oh, and there’s his now-and-then partner, Stormy Stine, who looks more like a grandmother than an ex-Secret Service agent, as well as his sister, Randi Leigh, who suddenly finds immense interest in what her big brother is doing. With this great four-book set, you can take the entire ride with Parker and his family and friends.
Driven by Death
Detective Parker DuPont turned in his letter of resignation (he forgot to tell his wife), and is just weeks away from officially hanging his PI shingle, when he catches his first case. Charlie Porter was struck by a golf ball. Accidental death by golf ball, it is ruled, though there were no witnesses. Was it accidental? If not, who was the killer? What is his wife hiding?
Remembering Death
Alzheimer’s patient Lester Winters receives an experimental pacemaker for his brain to restore his memory. He first recalls a dead woman. To help find the answers, his wife hires an attorney who hires Parker DuPont. He soon discovers that there is a lot more to Lester’s memory than just a dead woman. He remembers where she is buried, as well as the face of the killer, and is scared into silence, fearing the killer remembers him.
Secrets in Death
Sky Deakins doesn’t believe that her husband committed suicide; however, to get to the truth, she may have to reveal a secret that she’s kept close to her heart for 23 years, a secret she shouldn’t be taking to her grave. At 80, that time may not be far off. And what does the 2016 future senatorial candidate Dallas Maguire have to do with any of it? And what about Gracie’s secret? Will Randi Leigh make Parker an uncle? Can Parker and his dad actually become friends? Who is it that has secrets in death?
Lost in Death
Hieronymus is not only ready to die, he wants to die. In Florida, however, it’s called self-murder. How many law-makers would change their minds about the whole self-murder thing once they themselves come to realize their days are at an end, that there is no longer a life while certain death hoovers about them like a cold fog? Hieronymus thinks about much of this while carefully navigating his oxygen tank from the bed, to the bathroom, to the kitchen, to the sofa. It was about time he did something right; take control of his final choice - his choice as to how and when to die. What could possibly go wrong?

A level headed P I who is not an invincible macho man
A good clean story having characters that can be identified with. The narrator made listening a pleasure. Glad I used a credit.

Parker DuPont,P.I. Bundle
James Paddock has written a very entertaining series with Parker DuPont and faimly. I like that the characters grow in the series and develop. I have only been to Miami, but these books make me want to take a bus ride through out Florida! Sometimes I have figured out who the bad "guy" was, but in this 4th book, I wasn't entirely correct! I recommend these books very much!

Terrible narration and uninteresting mystery
There wasn’t much to like about this book. You know why the crime was committed from the first scene, and as soon as the murderer appears in the story, it’s obvious who it is. So it’s really just a matter of waiting for the main character to figure it out, then waiting for him to catch the killer. There is basically no mystery and the characters are too one-dimensional to carry the story. The main detective isn’t totally unlikeable, but he isn’t interesting or charming either. There really isn’t enough about him or his family to feel like you’re “getting to know” him, so the scenes with his family fall flat.
Now the narrator- just awful. First, his diction is totally off. It’s like he’s reading the story for the first time and doesn’t know where the sentence is going when he’s reading it. All the male voices either sound same or are artificially deep. The main detective only has a southern accent some of the time, usually when he’s speaking for a while, so the narrator remembers to do his voice. All the female characters are narrated with an incredibly annoying nasal quality that makes it sound like every woman in the book is a whiny old lady. It’s impossible to tell who is talking, especially because the author throws out so many names for new characters that natter on at each other for a few minutes, then never appear again.
This is a publishers pack, but I didn’t even finish the first book. I got to the last 2/3, after the killer was finally identified, but didn’t stick around to see them caught. I just didn’t care enough to put myself through any more of the awful narration.

Enjoyed stories - Not Narrator
Although the stories managed to keep me engaged enough to finish the audiobook bundle, the narrator's choppy cadence pulled me out of story mode far too often. It felt like he was reading the story for the 1st time & had no idea where to place subtle pauses for maximum effect. Instead we are subjected to pauses in all the wrong places, changing meaning & ruining flow. Did the audio director not notice? I want to listen the author's other set of stories, but hesitate because the narrator is the same. Can I manage 46+ hrs of his narration again? Not sure.

I have to say I really liked all four...!!!
A bit corny and soapy... HOWEVER... there are so many great twists and turns and excellent narratives with with very fine characters brought to life by a well skilled voice actor . there is real murder mystery and police procedurals with unexpected suspense that proved very entertaining in a continual and surprising pace. never heard of this author prior to another wonderful conversation with the audible concierge to whom I am most graciously appreciative. I look forward to CJ Washburn... 👍👍

Don't give up early, like I considered doing!
JJ Bidner , the reader, hit his stride by the second book. Ignore his halting reading of the background narrative and focus on the good job he does of the various character's dialogue and you'll be able to enjoy Paddocks excellent stories. This audio bundle is well worth hearing.
