Summary
Damien thought his exams would be bad enough. Then his mother collapsed with a failing heart.
In a desperate move Damien throws himself into the Streamer Contest of Saga Online, the latest fantasy VR-MMORPG. Winning will provide the funds for his mom’s surgery. Yet early betrayal and a close run in with a vampire almost ruin his attempt before he even begins.

the story was quite engaging and the pacing was quite good, the interesting aspects of the character made the overall story quite engaging

very enjoyable.
I totally enjoyed this book. I loved the whole underdog story unlike most other LITRPG you can't help but feel for the kid and I found myself rooting for him and his mom.
I would happily recommend this book 10/10, I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Captivating book, hard to put down
I was looking for a book to satisfy my needs after finishing ready player one. I came across The Occultist and was in for a huge treat! This audio book is narrated excellently and the book is very hard to stop listening to. At the time listening to the book I fell ill and this book really was an amazing story to take all my attention away! The only down side is you will not want to stop listening to this audio book!

This was soooo good.
As a gamer I really really enjoyed this. Such an easy listen. Was gutted when it ended. Now on to the sequel 👌🏻

Best of the bunch.
I've read probably 50 LitRpg books ranging from long-running fantasy series to sci-fi and zombies but this was the best of them all. An original premise for the character being there (none of this generic "I'm trapped here" rubbish) and a cast of extremely likeable characters.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book and I await the next with baited breath :)
