Summary
The seductive and action-packed follow-up to Alex Aster's instant #1 New York Times, #1 Wall Street Journal, and internationally bestselling novel, Lightlark
Isla Crown has secured the love of two powerful rulers and broken the curses that plagued the six realms for centuries, but few know the true origins of her powers. Now, in the wake of a crushing betrayal, Isla finds herself hungry for distraction, preferring to frequent Lightlark's seductive haunts instead of embracing her duties as the newly crowned leader of two separate realms. Worse, her fellow rulers haven't ceded victory quietly, and there are others in Isla's midst who don't believe her ascent to power was earned. As certain death races toward Lightlark and secrets from the past begin to unravel, Isla must weigh her responsibility to her people against the whims of the most dangerous traitor of all: her heart.
Alex Aster's intricate world expands after the riveting culmination of the Centennial games, delving more deeply into Isla's memories of her past, as her future hurtles toward two possible fates.

a brilliant sequel
a fantastic sequel to the first book, towards the end I was absolutely glued and couldn't stop.
the performance by the narrator was absolutely stellar as with the first book, and genuinely I am now chomping at the bit for the third book for the story to continue!
I need more! 😭

Great sequel
The book was a perfect continuation from the 1st book, and I felt it added to the story and it didn’t feel like it had been pumped out. Surprisingly, I was equally as torn between the 2 love interests as Isla, which is rare for me in romance novels, and made the book much more interesting.

enjoyed but not as much as the 1st
it starts ofd very well and I enjoyed the story. The way the story unfolds make the ending seem obvious. and I found Isla more annoying in this book.
definitely worth a read.

The storytelling and how it always left you wanting to know more.
I loved the story, the characters, the writing. It always left you wanting more. The way each monumental and pivotal point of the story was such a short chapter making you desperate to come back to ‘Before’ and unveiling more.I didn’t want the book to end and really hope there will be more to this story.

Drawn-Out
I had seen this series all over social media and thought I would give it a try.
I found the first book to be okay-ish, not quite a capturing read but it was alright. The concept of the story was interesting but with minimum payoff.
However, I wanted to give the sequel a chance to see if the series improved. This book felt drawn-out with many details and chapters completely unnecessary. It created a confusing drawn out preparation for an unneeded battle with no real payoff. Grim written as the only likeable character.
I would say the author wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t especially good.
The most difficult thing to listen to for the two books was the narrators pronunciation of the name ‘Isla’. It is pronounced ‘I-La’ not ‘Iz-la’.
