Book one: There's No Such Thing as Monsters
Monsters come in all shapes and sizes, and not all of them have sharp teeth and beady red eyes.
New London. A thriving metropolis at the forefront of technological advancement and a shining gem of civilization.
Faeries. Whether they come off cute and cuddly or downright predatory, they all bring misfortune or are heralds of it.
Experience is a harsh taskmistress, but her lessons sink the deepest. Having been taught the lesson at great cost, Kal’s rules for dealing with faeries are simple: Don’t talk to them, don’t look at them, don’t give them the time of day.
His little sister, Sammie, a natural mage, is taken by Ouroboros, a criminal organization made up of raving lunatics who profit off the misery and suffering of others and have everything to do with all the crimes of magic in New London.
Kal will go to any lengths to save his sister, even to his death. Accompanied by his sylph companion, a mischievous pest, Kal dives deep into the dark underbelly of the city, but are his hands enough to dig his sister out from the muck?
Book two: The Monster's in the Details
Are monsters born, or do bad actors take shattered people and shape them like putty, molding them into unrecognizable shapes?
The Otherworld. Made up of Dayside and Nightside and separated by the Twilit Boundary, the Otherworld is a plane of existence lost from time, bursting with magic and vibrant life.
Kal floats on the verge of life and death, struggling to find a reason to keep on living. In an odd turn of events, Kal's sylph familiar, Bell, may care more about keeping him alive than he does. Bell makes a deal with the merfolk on Kal's behalf to save him from a fatal wound, but in doing so the wily fishes curse him to do their bidding.
More than a hundred champions galivant across the Otherworld in search of a kingly title shrouded in mystery and dark deceit, the mantle of the Seven Year King.
Kal will undergo his own crucible along his path of thorns. Tests, trials, and tribulations will force him to wrestle with his nature and face himself fully, warts and all. If he survives, Kal will emerge clothed in legitimacy and empowered to pursue his own ends.
Book three: The Monster at the End of Its Road
Kal may be on his way to becoming a monster, but with Bell at his side, at least he’s in good company.
New London circa 1912. A few short months have passed since they stabbed Kal in the back and cast him into the abyss.
Ouroboros. A criminal organization with deep pockets and deeper connections that infest the highest ranks of the nobility. Ouroboros specializes in trafficking, crimes of magic, and deals in all that is immoral or illegal. Dark forces are brewing, and Ouroboros stands in the eye of the storm.
New London is a city that never sleeps...until now. Storefronts are closed, windows are shuttered, and doors are barred while dark entities terrorizing the streets at night bring indiscriminate death to all. And in broad daylight, a serial killer continues to wreak havoc on the magical community.

Brilliant story, perfect narration
This is a wonderful series with the perfect narrator. Set in an alternative Victorian/Edwardian London with supernatural creatures, The writing is lyrical and engaging. The stories flow beautifully. Love Belle the bloodthirsty fairy, but don't call her that! the second book moves into the Fae realm for a classic quest story and then back to London for book 3. The overall arc is Kal's struggle to protect his sister a Mage from the Ouroboros gang. I cannot praise this series enough and you could not ask for a better narrator. I received a complimentary copy from the author and am leaving a honest voluntary review

Fascinating sword and sorcery, magical, paranormal
I love this fascinating sword and sorcery, magical, paranormal story. This audiobook includes the first three books and is pure entertainment. Fair warning, it has an abundance of violence, blood, and gore, but no sex. You do really need to pay attention to the characters and what's going on in the story, or you could easily become lost. I read the eBook copy of these books first, and I picked up so much more when I followed that up with the audiobook. If you get confused or lost, just keep with the story. It is worth it, and you won't be able to resist rooting for Kal as he attempts to save his sister and New London from Ouroboros and the evil hordes of monsters. I especially love the relationship and camaraderie that (eventually) develops between Kal and Bel, and watching Kal become stronger and MORE than he ever thought he could be. Although this audiobook ends at a satisfactory resting point, I am eager to see what comes next for Kal and Bel.
The narration is absolutely fantastic with all the different voices and accents. Mr. Patmore is outstanding, and I can't imagine anyone else doing such a fantastic job with this story.

New adult? action packed dystopian with folktales
Audio ARC Review]
Folklore, mythology and fairytale creatures, banter with a snarky little winged companion, dark forces taking over and the battle to save and protect (found) family.
Audio narration by: Greg Patmore
Patmore does a very decent job with various voices to match the characters, and I enjoyed the accent.
I struggle deciding to class this as YA or adult. It feels partly as a coming-of-age story, and big parts of the book have a more YA vibe to them, but some of the themes, and the amount of gruesome content, are anything but. New adult, maybe?
Favourites:
- Sylph & banter: our MC's companion was my absolute favourite aspect of this story. She is hilarious, and perfect to counter our MC's, somewhat sulky sometimes, personality. Really, she was the star of these books and I applaud the author for her characterization. Absolutely brilliant.
- Creative: I liked the idea of mixing all sorts of different folktales, myths and the supernatural. It was very creative, and often surprising.
What I missed:
- Clarity: there was so much going on in this book, with all the different sorts of species, magic systems that didn't necessarily get expanded on a lot, magical artifacts and so many different plots and events mashed up that I often found myself feeling a little lost.
- Sidetracked: book two felt like a sidetrack. Our MC feels like he's failed his quest, but most of this book in the omnibus just seemed a sort of in-between where we wait and wait until he stops moping about and letting his surroundings batter him around, and decides to actually pick up the main plot again.

Coarse language: very mild
Violence and gore: quite extreme
Conclusion
Although I enjoyed the narrator, I wondered if I'd struggled less keeping track of the who,what and where if I'd read this on paper instead, but that's just an assumption. I had a few slumps while listening to this book, but overall it was an enjoyable story.

A fantastic fantasy series!
The story behind these 3 books will keep you so riveted you will be hard pressed to stop reading! From the moment you meet Kal and Bell, the outside world ceases to exist. I enjoyed this set so much that I'm sure I will be reading it again! It's loaded with adventure, faeries, orgres, giants and all sorts of awesome fantasy characters! Enjoy the escape!

Dark and delicious fantasy - superbly narrated
A not to be missed opportunity to binge listen to an exciting and different urban fantasy. I purchased the individual books, so this compilation is great value. Set in a magical London of 1912, we follow Kal and Bell, his sylph familiar, as they battle evil and enemies. The action is non-stop, great saves and unexpected twists. I so enjoyed the snarky blood thirsty Bell. Atmospheric, well written and great dialogue.
Greg Patmore's narration is superb. He has an amazing vocal range and brings the characters to life. Greg Patmore is a one click narrator for me.

Folklore and myth brought to entertaining life
While each volume of this trilogy is its own setting they tie together seamlessly. We're here, we're there, and we're back again. The depictions of the monsters and other folk of fairy tales are quite well done and the story flows well across the three volumes. I was really saddened to reach the then of the series, such was the pleasure of listening to this tale.
The narrator did a great job of keeping his voicings distinct and clear, with the exception of just about every male Englishman, who all sounded quite similar.
There were a few anachronisms here, where the main character (mostly) used expressions that were not in use nor even created during the time frame of the books. Such expressions as "got your six", "go-go dancers, and "reverse engineering" came into existence way after the dialog and narrative here.

I lost myself in this story
It was so much fun learning about the massive world of the Gaslamp Faeries. Kal and Bell have a unique relationship that I found refreshing. The author, Ren Ryder, puts an original twist on familiar creatures that make them come to life differently than you expect.
The story is fast-paced and has enough twists to keep you guessing. There is more than enough intrigue to keep you turning pages, or listening to the next chapter.
Greg Patmore delivers an excellent narration. His accent, tone changes, and attitude bring the characters to life.

rip roaring end to the trilogy
greatly enjoyed these three books. I rated and reviewed the first two and was happy to get this omnibus that contained the third book.
recommend start at the finish if the second book and flow into the third. just worked better for me.
in this book, a heart is still broken, a family reunited, a fight seemingly lost is won and belle is as insouciant as ever.
again good narrator and wide range of character voices.

An Epic Adventure in Three Volumes
I love these stories and the opportunity to acquire an audio version of the entire series for just a single token was too goo to pass up. It's a great series, well written and well read.
Kal's adventures from New London to the elven kingdom and back is packed with lore and magic and all the action you can handle and Belle, Kal's sidekick and familiar offers both a magical "get out of jail free" card and a source of comic relief.
Each story chronicles a separate "quest" and could be read as stand alone pieces, but they are really three pieces of a larger story.
If you're a fan of epic fantasy featuring strange races and exotic creatures and enjoy a good story that's adventure filled and takes a light-hearted approach, this three volume set will definitely tickle your fancy and your funny bone. (less)

Great Character, Enchanting World
There is No Such Things as Monsters
I really enjoyed this book. I love that this urban fantasy is set across the pond; the narrator's accent is fun and gives the character a lot of personality. This is reminiscent of Harry Dresden and there is good humor. The main character does grow into his own in this book making it stand out from The Dresden Files.
The Monster is in the Details
This second book in the Gaslamp Faeries is as entertaining as the first. The beginning got off to a rough start (I imagine the written version might be smoother with the repetition). But then I was drawn into the story. You know things are going to go down when Oberon the Faerie King appears. During Samhain, Kal must stake his place as a champion and participate in a variety of trials for the title of the Seven Year King. Ren Ryder has created an empathetic character and the narration is engaging.
The Monster At the End of It's Road
I really loved this entry! From the first moment, we are in another world: a world of magic and danger. Ren Ryder gives our protagonist real stakes and I was scared for him and his familiar. This was exciting and tense. The narrator is perfect as usual and takes me into the Gaslamp world.
