Summary

In an instant he became her hero. Then he became her lover and her friend.

My name is Jaxon Hart.

You watched me grow up. You watched me fight for my life. Now, I’m fighting for hers.

From the second I laid eyes on Annika Leander, I wanted to help her. Protect her. Vindicate her. But she’s got baggage to get through. Hell, we both do.

A funny thing happens, though, when you finally connect with someone in a different way than you ever have before. The baggage doesn’t seem so heavy.

I suppose that’s really the only thing that matters when the heart gets involved.

Story Picks up with Jaxon (Jason's son) in College

This book was not as good as the other Hart books. That's not to say I didn't barrel through this reading like a freight train without brakes. I guess I can't really relate as well to these college kids as I did the adults. Carter had them talking so brash and trashy sometimes, it made me cringe. The story centered around every female college kid's worst nightmare. Jaxon was the knight in shining armor to Annika's damsel. Subject matter aside, it was cute how he helped her but not swoon-worthy like books 1 & 2 were.

As for the narrators, I didn't like Alex's reading at first but then I kind of grew to like his voice. However, Muffy, I could not stand. Way too breathy and the way she said Annika before each chapter she read was like Annikaaaaa. If you listen to it, you'll know what I mean. Her inflections and the delivery of the lines grated on me. She's why I gave the performance 3 stars.

Perfect

I totally love this book. Everything! The story, the narration - the things we learned about the Harts. And Annika! Perfect :-)
The subject is sooo important. Thank you for writing this.

I personally loved this book!!

I love any book by Muffy Newtown and this was no exception. This follows the son from the series and I actually bought this first and listened and loved it! It had everything i look for...sports, romance and chemistry. I love the pacing and it was never dull for me. The narrators were spot on. Good job

Emotional Journey

So many emotions! I first met Jaxon as a child earlier in the series. His life has already had it's share of hard times. Now he is on the edge of adulthood, and one terrible night changes his life yet again. However, even from the darkest of times, life can give you a gift. Jaxon and Annika are two strong characters; and quite frankly, they are inspirational.
However, this isn't just the story of Jaxon and Annika. There is also some Hart family storyline. Let me just say that this family can bring me to tears, but I love it that way! I'm hoping this isn't the end of this family's saga.

Wow ! What a book !

This was one of the best books I've read. It did cover some emotional and terrible situations which do happen in everyday lives of people. Narrators were fabulous. A must read.

Tough subject matter but an overall solid story.

I went into this audio because I loved the previous audio from this series as well as others from this author. M.E. Carter really knows how to play with emotions, unexpected plots and very real characters. This was my first audio with narration by Alex Kydd and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He seems to dive into emotions very well and he has a good balance between his male & female narration. Muffy, as always, is at the top of her game! She really dives into these stories and makes you feel like you are not only a witness but a participant. This story evolves around a difficult subject matter but it is done in a way that it is very deep and you find yourself connecting with the circumstances that these characters are in. The best take away to me is that love can flourish in the most dire and difficult of circumstances if you learn to open up and trust.

Engaging as always but lacked realism in places

ME Carter knows how to build characters and immediately engage the reader. All the narration was excellent. Personally I disliked certain minor aspects of the story notably the rhetoric in the court room - more of a vindictive silly rant than appropriate to assist the judge in sentencing by telling her story and the impact of events. However it is expected to be irritated by small aspects of a story set around sensitive issues.
