Story
I’ve seen Frank Fisher before, but he’s never seen me. He definitely saw me tonight. And I know I wasn’t the only one who felt the world shift the moment our eyes connected from across the bar. But Frank isn’t like his brothers. He’s quiet, elusive, and keeps to himself. It makes him mysterious, but that’s not why I’m drawn to him. It’s something else. Something I’ve never experienced before, as cliche as that may sound. I want to be around him. Get to know him better. Explore what’s growing between us, but Frank keeps holding back and I have no idea why.

Story
I didn't plan on him...or for him. I didn't plan on anything that had to do with Cal Donovan from Boston. Meeting him was a complete and utter surprise, taking me completely off guard. I met new people every single day in my line of work, and none of them affected me. Isn't that just the way of things? You could meet a thousand people, and they'd all mean nothing to you, but then you'd meet that one and they suddenly meant everything.

It's been 10 years since I've seen him. Ten years. I have no idea what he's doing, where he's been, or if he's even still single. Have I thought about him over the years? Of course. Absolutely. But that doesn't mean anything, right? Just because you think about the boy you used to be in love with doesn't mean you're still in love with him now. Does it?

Confession #1: I'm a sex columnist. Hold on, that's not really the confession. You see, I'm sort of a virgin sex columnist. Confession #2: I'm kind of in love with Bridget's older brother, Oliver. Just the sight of Dustin Nikoli spiked fear in my heart. The memories of the things that he had put me through in high school made me want to run in the other direction. I was the dirt on the bottom of his shoes, my only purpose someone for him to torment. No one else saw it. To his peers, he was a man's man. To all of the girls unaffected by his cruelty, a lust object. He was the hottest *sshole you could ever meet. Pretty face. Amazing body. Ugly on the inside.

We have a heated history, and I’ve been avoiding him. Not least of all because he’s a hundred percent my type with those big brown eyes, a ripped body, and his blisteringly broody charm. The most perfect love story
- By Claire Annovazzi on 29-06-22
Summary
Nick Fisher is State's most eligible bachelor - confident, creative, and driven - and is completely aware that every girl he knows is trying to land him. But Nick is more than the marketing genius everyone sees on the outside. In fact, his life is far more complicated than anyone suspects...even his own brothers.
Jess Michaelson knows she shouldn't want Nick like all the other girls do, but she's crazy about him anyway. How could anyone resist those charms? When he focuses his attention on her, she has no idea what she's truly in for.
Sometimes love is hard.
But it's worth the fight.

80% Erin☹️, 20% Jason
I checked this book out because I love Jason's voice but this book is almost entirely read by Erin in her breathless, full of 'suspense' and slower tone. Not what I expected or was looking for and it drove me mad. I won't listen to any more books that she reads.
The ending was also very slow and entirely predictable. Not sure why I wasted my time listening to this.

I DID IT FOR YOU! NICK WENT FROM HERO TO ZERO!
This story had very good parts, however, our hero goes downhill as the story progresses. He was a wimp hiding under the excuse "I did it for you..."
There's only so much a person should stand from a partner before giving up. How many " i am sorry-s" "I didn't mean it" "it was a joke" "I can't say *NO* to dad" do you have to hear before you put your foot down? And can you really forgive Nick's cruelty handling things the way he did? To me the answer is a resounding "NO"! I can't believe that our heroine forgave him so easily.
I didn't like the story after the way the hero behaved, specially towards the end.
There are many positive reviews, so please don't let my opinion stop you from listening to this book.
The narrators were both great, and I particularly enjoyed listening to Jason Clarke and wish there was more for him to read.

2.75 Reluctant Stars for me!
Why 2.75?
I really like the author and enjoy her ability to suck the reader in with the banter between characters. Most of her stories are excellent and this one definitely could have been great!
This book started out great - 4-5 Stars and then started a rapid plummet.
SPOILER ALERT!
MAJOR AND MINOR SPOILERS BELOW. STOP HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT INSIGHT INTO THE MAJOR PLOT POINTS!!
.
.
.
.
.
.
1. If you really care about a person you have started dating, you cancel any future plans with other perspective partners. Dating one person while grooming the next person you might want to date is still akin to cheating in my book.
2. Making the decision for your partner while denying them any input is not love, it is control.
3. Any one of the people involved in Carla's plot could have easily ended it before it got to a Church with a simple recorder app on their smart phone.
4. Both MCs were spineless and serious doormats.

3.75 ⭐️
I almost feel bad for giving a 3.75 rating bcz I actually loved the story but bcz I’m a firm believer of feedback being a “gift” here are my thoughts:
1- Since there was dual POV’s, we should’ve heard more from Nick
2- Although the narrators were awesome and as much as I love Erin, the listener should’ve heard more from Jason (oh good lord is his voice SEXY🔥)
3- The book could’ve been longer to have an epic romance build up before the chaos
4- Though Jess was still holding on in some ways, I wish she had more actively dated
5- The separation should’ve been longer to give Jess that time to date and Nick an opportunity to delay things
6- Speaks to #2, I would’ve love to hear more about Nick’s interactions with Carla
7- With Jess’s strength, I wish she had made Nick work harder to get her back rather than one conversation
8- Jess mentioned she was in experienced but there should’ve have been more discussion between her and Nick about her past experiences and how he would handle her heart and body with care. Those words would’ve Jess more to ponder over
9- Would’ve been cool to hear how Nick’s Frat Bro’s razzed him over Carla and attempted to get with Jess
10- We could’ve heard more about the Frat Bro who was kicked out. Or maybe he could’ve ran into Jess at the other school (IDK)
11- Jess’s lie to Nick at the beginning was never revisited
IMO: At heart Nick was an immature coward who knew nothing about women, feelings, or how to be a man. He was a juvenile who needed his brothers to stand up for him. I get that was a sort of the point of the story, but I wish there was something more substantial given to the audience to hold on to other than, “my dad said I had to...” WHIMP!!
Here’s what I loved:
1- I loved Jess’s strength and boldness in her attempts to stand her ground
2- I loved the fact that Jess had a great support system
3- I loved the angst this story bought on
4- I LOVED both Narrators (Jason Clarke gives he eargasims, YUM!)
5- I loved the fact that the audience could draw their own conclusions about Nick & Jess’s future rather than saying the got married and lived HEA
6- I loved the mention of the other brothers, can’t wait for their stories to come out on audio
7- I loved that Jess didn’t give in and went for her dreams
8- I loved the fact that Carla threw a tantrum in front of everyone
9- I loved the flow of the story
Overall, I did actually love the story although there was much to be desired. Good thing it landed in the GD Romance Package, otherwise it would’ve gone over looked. ❤️

I'm not crying, you're 😭 crying
(Nick & Jess): TRIGGER: attempted sexual assault. Once again, J.S. has managed to screw my head all up. So Nick and Jess met in college, she's a sophomore and he's a senior. He's also the most popular, president of his fraternity, played football and is the biggest Playboy. Jess just exists, going to school and hanging with her best friend and roommate. Nick makes a hard play for Jess until he finally gets what he wants. Then it seems he just makes dumb move after dumb move. With Jess being not as experienced, it seemed that she just kept forgiving everything he did. So it made her look stupid. It frustrated me but I did like that she always called him on his crap and I also loved that he always put her and her education first. I did wish for a final confrontation with the female antagonist but that's just the pettiness in me. 🤣🤣🤣. Loved this story.

Just ok
The story was just ok in my opinion. I unusually stay away from "college" scenarios, because I find them to be annoying and too naïve. I felt there should of been more of Nick, especially during the separation, with less Jess and her sometimes nosy annoying roommate. nick was annoying with his daddy issues. Jess was just naïve at times. Jason did a great for his narration but Ms. Mallon's can sometimes be too breathy over exaggerated and drawled out. Her narration can be a hit or miss for me at times. I could see younger readers/listeners enjoying this tale.

Some bad days♥️🍺🎤💙
If you read the reviews, you will see a mixed bag of ideas on this story. They are all right to an extent. It’s hard to imagine someone being as boneheaded as Nick, but regardless, I don’t think Jess was a complete fool.
She may have forgiven him some stupid and misguided decisions, but young people are still figuring things out, and Nick had a lot to consider. By finally stepping up, he does eventually redeem himself.
As usual, Jason Clark is amazing and Erin Mallon is annoying. I set speed at 1.3 for her parts and it takes the whine out of her voice. Try it. The story is worth listening to if you like some angst with your romance.
