Summary

Henri is quite accustomed to dangerous and unusual cases landing in his lap. Being partnered to the Shinigami Detective likely has something to do with it. What he is not accustomed to is the queen herself marching into his lab and handing them such a case.

Former Royal Mage Joseph Burtchell was found dead in his home, all signs pointing to murder. However, it’s in question as to how the murderer accomplished the deed—the house was locked, the wards fully up, and the body bearing a peculiar wound.

It’s a locked room mystery, one with a suspiciously absent murder weapon and lack of suspects. Henri’s left baffled. Jamie’s excited, relishing the challenge the case represents.

Who’s powerful enough to thwart a royal mage’s wards and murder him undetected?

Splendid series

I loved this mystery series. The narrators were great and made the book come to life. They both put a lot effort into it and I did not have a complaint or a suggestion that could have made it any better. The author wrote a great plot and wonderful characters. This will be a series a listen to many times. I hope the rest of the audiobooks in the series come quickly so I can get them.

KEEP THEM COMING!!!!! or: a Fun Fantasy Whodunit

I was thrilled when I spotted this title for sale this morning and have already finished listening to it. As a fan of the e-book series I have been beyond excited to see them coming out in audible format, and the performers are doing them justice. The English accent on the male performer is the perfect showcase for the incredibly proper, upper crust Henry, and the female performer catches Jamie's emotions and California girl accent to a tee. All I can say is please, please, please, keep them coming!

Now for the story. If you have not read Magic and the Shinigami Detective, I recommend you start there. This is book three and while each is a stand-alone story, the first book introduces the whole setup, which would be very strange if you had no context. This was a locked-room mystery in the country (Henry does squeak wonderfully when Jamie drives fast) and, while not as dramatic as the first two case files, presented a satisfyingly twisty case and solution. Overall it was a nice way to showcase Jamie's pure detective-work and how Henry's magic makes him the perfect partner for her. Also, Clint becomes a Field Cat. Yay for more Clint!

Loved it!

This is my first Honor Raconteur series and I adore listening to and learning about Shinigami Detective and her discovery of her new world with Henry’s help. My only disappointment……Only books 1, 2, & 3 of The Case Files of Henri Davenforth Series are available on audible..🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼I hope books 4-7 are available soon🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Another Delightful Tale

As always Honor Raconteur creates such amazing characters. They are unique, Whitt and charismatic. The byplay between the two main characters who obviously don’t realize their own chemistry is what makes this such a delightful tale. Also the narration is a spot on.

Locked door mystery

An excellent addition to the series. Good humored without being a “cozy” mystery. Enough magic to keep it interesting and develop the alternative world. Also a clean read (no swearing, sex, or gory violence)
