Summary

Winner of 2021 Voice Arts Award, Audiobook Narration — Fantasy

"He thinks he's a wizard," they said.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year.

But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Mr Lowell at his usual brilliance...

An interesting off angle view of the world of magic....
Not as fanciful as Rowling or as quirky as the Discworld, but a well structured set of believable characters with an intelligent, well paced and entertaining storyline throughout.

Nathan has created yet another compelling universe to explore..

I look forward to the next installment...

unique in my experience

although this appears typical of this authors style of loyal and honourable characters. The contemporary setting and unusual job at this time was a delight to listen to. looking forward to further books. highly recommended for those who love urban fantasy.

Surprised!

I don't usually like this kind of book, without action, adventure, twist and turns and there's not much magic involved, BUT I was happy while reading this. It's beautifully written and wonderfully narrated. I felt warmth in this book, I was engaged from the beginning. It might not be to everyone's liking but I will be looking out for book 2.

Unsure.

I have listened to Nathan Lowell’s previous books, more science fiction than fantasy. However I am familiar with his story style. I enjoy his books so I thought even though this story doesn’t have space ships I’ll give it a go.

I did enjoy it. Really I did. I just can’t give you a storyline without it sounding boring, I don’t know how Nathan does it, he tells stories that aren’t constant battles, people in danger or cliffhangers. He gives a story that is great that keeps you engaged and wanting more but when you try to explain it to someone else it doesn’t come across the same.

This is the first time I have heard Tom Taylorson as a narrator, I enjoyed his voice and would consider a book if it’s read by him.

The authors ability to juggle the slow pace with keeping the story captivating.

Slow, and yet surprisingly endearing and enchanting. Looking forward to the next book. Also, this for some reason made me want to be a butler.

An enjoyable book

Great narration and an enjoyable gentle tale. I've read mixed reviews , but I really enjoyed it personally and would urge the undecided to give it a try. It's fantasy with a very small f but enjoyable characters, brilliantly narrated and still gripping.
