Summary

There are three things you need to know about Sandra Fielding:

1) She makes all her first dates cry,
2) She hasn't been kissed in over two years, and
3) She knows how to knit.

Sandra has difficulty removing her psychotherapist hat. Of her last 30 dates, 29 have ended the same way: the man sobbing uncontrollably. After one such disaster, Sandra gives in to a seemingly harmless encounter with her hot waiter, Alex. Argumentative, secretive, and hostile, Alex may be the opposite of everything Sandra knows is right for her. But now, the girl who has spent all her life helping others change for the better; must find a way to cope with falling for someone who refuses to change at all.

Love Hacked is book three in the Knitting in the City series. Each book is a stand-alone, full length (110k words) contemporary romantic-comedy novel, and follows the misadventures and exploits of seven friends in Chicago, all members of the same knitting group.

very entertaining

Really enjoyed the story and characters, but kept waiting for Zachary Webber's voice to appear! Don't get me wrong, Joy Nash was excellent , but I prefer the alternate chapters approach of the male and female voices, especially when two narrators are billed. so quite disappointed he only made the last 5 minutes.

🎧 Sandra and Alex 🎧

Unusual and quirky, like its characters, the story kept me engaged.
Easily read as a standalone in the KITC series.
The whole book is single POV by Joy Nash, with only the epilogue narrated by Zachary Webber.

Fabulous

Loved this quirky, intelligent, warm and funny book. The audio is fabulous! Sandra and Alex are a wonderful pairing and Joy Nash is brilliant as the narrator.

Perfect.

This is my first Penny Reid novel. From the description, I didn't think it was my cup of tea. But wow!!! Alex was definitely something to behold!
This book was included in my Audible subscription, and I really enjoyed Joy Nash's narration. Truth be told I found the last couple of chapters a tiny bit cringy for my liking, but the rest was soooo good, I'm still calling it perfect!

Couldn't stick with it

It takes 12 years to qualify as a psychiatrist. The heroine is a psychiatrist, aged 28. 8 chapters in, there's no reference to her being an academic prodigy. This bugged me so much that I couldn't continue. And if you're stopping to Google facts immediately you start a book that's probably a sign that you're not very engaged. Also, I'm over being told how mesmerising heroes are from the first moment they appear. It leaves me with nothing to do, imagination-wise. I found my mind wandering and then I stopped reading.

Overall good but not extraordinary

It's not the best romance story by any means, but it is a good one with enjoyable characters and a pretty interesting story, the pacing can be strange at times however and can feel rather slow at points, as if the author is trying to find ways to keep it going for longer.

The narrator is good but when I heard the narrator for the epilogue I immediately decided against listening to that part.

If you want an enjoyable and interesting romance story without using any credits, I'd recommend this one.

Tension Works, Cringe Broke Me

Do you think someone calling someone else “man-licious” consistently and describing kissing as “mouthlesting” is indescribably adorable? This heroine is for you. If you cringed so hard your stomach hurt a little… this may not be for you. I DNF’ed it after some of the mystery around the hero was resolved, as the intrigue kept me interested for a bit. This is a story about a clingy, pushy 28 year old therapist who forges an utterly codependent relationship with clingy, pushy 21 year old with a significant trauma history in a very short amount of time. I don’t get why romance/erotica writers keep having to one up the traumatic backstory of their characters, just so one special person can teach them to love, but my god, please stop.

NOTE: Zachary Weber on shows up in the epilogue

I was extremely disappointed to realize several chapters in that Zachary was not narrating this book. He is the only reason I spent my credit on the book.

The storyline draaaagged on.
The female narrator was good. She could benefit by not posing things in the narration as a question. She speaks the line then follows it up with “I asked” but posed that as the question not the actual line. Other than that I’ll add her to my list of liked narrators.

Did not like it. No Zachary narration

I was waiting for Zachary Webber narration but never heard it. I was stuck with high school voice(Joy) narrator.

Only listened because of Zachary Webber and he is only in the epilogue?

Good story but don’t say the story is narrated by him when he is in only 1 chapter.

New Version

Why? Why was the story re-recorded?? I very much like the other version!! This version sounds rushed and somewhat “lazy”. The accents were changed and Joy’s “Alex” lost the sexy voice and Sandra sounded board. I don’t mean to be harsh but again WHY?? P.S. I love the story and characters.

Worth a listen but…

I picked this up because I was in the mood for Zachary Webber, not realizing he only narrates a short epilogue. It was worth a listen but seemed a bit slow in parts.

Love this series & this book!

Huge fan of Penny Reid and her Smartypants publications. So sorry to see this series no longer come as a perk of membership on audible. Listen now before it’s too late! You won’t be disappointed. I’m listening to them all again, for the 3rd time, before they are gone. Then they will totally be worth the credit to listen once more.

It’s nice to have a “go to” series & author where you know you won’t drop IQ points just because your genre of choice is romance. For that I thank you Penny Reid.

Best in series!

So far I love this book the best the other 2 were cute and all but I didn’t like the manipulative behaviors of the male leads and the okie dokie mind set of the female leads but over all they were still great reads and I enjoyed them greatly!
