Summary

Must hate dogs

Do you hate dogs? Only want to talk about yourself? Is having a sense of humor something you’ve never been accused of? Think eating for pleasure is a complete waste of time? Agree that tipping is for suckers? Then you’re the date for me.

Dixon Beckett is the kind of guy who loves his mama, treats women right, and never ever wants to fall in love again. That’s why he’ll do anything to win a bet to be the last single man standing by Christmas.

He’s got a plan, too. Create the most no-good, horrible, very bad dating profile in existence. Only someone actually responds to his ad....

The rules say he has to go on six dates with the first (or in his case, only) person who answers — even if that person is Fiona Hartigan: hater of dogs, non-lover of any delicious food, and zero sense of humor.

But something feels off about this pariah. In fact, Dixon is almost positive Fiona is just pretending to be awful. Pretending to be the most horrible date in existence. And she’s most definitely pretending to not be as interested in him as he is in her.

The more Dixon Beckett starts to unravel the mystery of why Fiona answered his ad in the first place, the more he starts considering the most vile, awful, terrible idea ever…falling in love.

Hated the ending

Story was good, as predictable as these types of books always are, which normally I like, but I hated the ending to this one. *SPOILER*

Why on earth would she cave that fast to him after he treated her the way he did, it is putting out the completely wrong message to women reading/listening to this book!

What a captivating story!!!

I don't often write anything, but felt I had to for this one, truly enjoyable story and I was making time to listen when I don't normally. Really thoroughly enjoyable!

Oh dear..

This story is totally predictable.. sorry. Even the raunchy sections are tacky and predictable. I had added the other books into my library thinking that I would read them next, but I’ll be removing them.

Entertaining, made me laugh

Really enjoyed listening to this while doing 'stuff'. it's a lightweight, non threatening romantic comedy. These narrators were new for me but I'll look out for them again as I enjoyed their performance

Really enjoyed the storyline and characters! Well executed by the narrators. I was looking for good book for free for a long time and finally came across this after some questionable ones!

Not on of this authors better books

Not one of this authors better books.

Light spoilers:

This author is a bit formulaic but still provides an enjoyable read in most of their books. In most of their books there is some reason the couple can't be together, they enter into a casual thing, start to get serious, some fight happens breaking them up, then they realize they are in love and get together for good. The settings and characters are dynamic enough to make each book unique and enjoyable. This book however really bothered me.

(real spoilers here)

The main guy character starts the breakup fight and is intentionally as cruel as he can be to the female protagonist. He goes in with the intention to hurt her as much as he can. Then quickly after he makes a performative apology, never really saying sorry for the hurtful things he said. He does this in front of both his and her families, so they couldn't even really talk about it. AND SHE JUST FORGIVES HIM. In the other books the fight is a misunderstanding with the misunderstood one really acting out of love for the other. But this was abusive, as an abuse survivor being the verbal punching bag because he was angry, to the over the top apology that doesn't really apologize for hurting me in a situation that is so public you can't really say anything, to being told that "because of you I'll change. Our love will make me different " . The last few chapters were hard to read and ruined the romance for me.

Plot came across as ridiculously immature

When I read the blurb for this book I was really interested and looking forward to a slightly awkward friends to lovers storyline. What I ended up with was not that. I also didn't care for the female narrator's portrayal of her character. She seemed to be trying a little too hard and over emphasizing everything. I found myself skipping her parts altogether. The male narrator was fine, so I was able to get most of the story. Now for the story line. Warning, there be *Spoilers* ahead. Avery is your typical modern day woman who is nice and repeatedly burned by that as a result from a never ending parade of jerks who take advantage of that. I can relate as I'm sure most of the female population out there can. She decides to channel her older sister, who works for the local police dept., and start acting like a b***h. Add to that she is using the date to get close to the CEO of a make up company who has been flaking on her honest attempts to get an appointment with him for months (we know this because Avery is constantly bringing it up in her inner monologue with herself, as in every other sentence). So she pretends to to fit the description of his personal ad. In spite of the fact that she has been busted in her lie repeatedly by Dixon, she holds on to it with all the tenacity of a toddler gripping the last piece of candy in the box. She agrees to go along with Dixon's plan of pretending to be "in love" to fool his cousins so Dixon can be the last man standing. Meanwhile, Dixon drags her into one scheme after another to prank his cousins but always end up falling victim to the prank himself when they outwit him in the end. The first time this happened, I thought "ok. that could happen" but the second then third...smh. Meanwhile, Dixon is constantly testing Avery on her self proclaimed tendencies about not liking dogs, never eating for pleasure (this was done by serving her the most unappetizing but nutritious foods he could come up with), etc. After the 3rd time his cousins duped him and backfired his own prank on him I gave up. This was not my type of book. It was not funny, or sweet, or even remotely interesting to me. Definitely not enough to finish it. So it will be added to my DNF collection never to see the light of day again. I will say that if you are into this kind of trope you should give this book a read. The storyline may be interesting to someone who likes reading about this stuff, just not me. It had nothing to do with bad writing and everything to do with my personal tastes. I may try one of this writer's other books but if they start going the way this one did I may need to find another author.

Another Hartigan story….. loved it!!!

I know this is a new story and can be read without reading The Hartigans series but I think because I had read that series, I enjoyed this even more because I knew those characters (which I loved)!!! Fiona Hartigan can’t seem to find love, she always falls for the WRONG guy!! Dixon is a CEO of the family business and he’s been done wrong in a relationship as well. Him and his cousins were very close with their late Grandma and see there’s one present left from her but not addressed to anyone. Being from a competitive family they decide to do a contest, whoever is the last man standing NOT in love by the end of the year gets the final present. Dixon has to sign up on a dating website to go out with the first person who responds to his add. He makes his profile awful…. Who’d respond to this??? Well, Fiona has been trying to get a meeting with Dixon regarding her grandma’s cosmetics line but he’s canceled on her many times. This is her chance for some one on one time, so she pretends to be the horrible person his add asks for. What could go wrong when there’s a six date limit? Such a great listen!! I’m looking forward to the cousins stories.

Love the Hannigan brood!

I'm not sure what it is but I l9ve everything this author writes. I started with Butterface and took off from there. The town, city and large Irish Firefighter family is so well developed I can picture every nuance in my minds eye. The intro of these 3 Becket cousins is a fun add & II can't wait to find out what happens with Griffin and Nash. Could the youngest Hannigan tumble for the like minded science nerd Griff? so exciting.

I love the way the author is able to build the romance between the 2 MCs everytime. It makes the hot sexy scenes have so much depth. The love scenes are never cringe worthy but definitely va va voom!

Narration was well done.

On to the next book of the new series! Yay!

Cute with a side of sexy

Fun, light romance with a unique premise and some great sex too. I enjoyed learning about the family characters of both Fiona & Dixon. The only thing I was curious about was, if Dixon’s cousins were taking their first Bramble offers from women (a contingency of the bet) … why weren’t we hearing tidbits about their 6 dates?
