Summary

Hello there. Welcome to my autobiography.

Throughout this audiobook I talk about my life and work, including Little Britain, Come Fly with Me, Bridesmaids, Les Miserables, Alice in Wonderland and, of course, Shooting Stars. The thing is, this is a bit different to most memoirs you may have listened to, because it comes in the form of an A-Z. For instance, B is for Baldy! Which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun). G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real-life gay), and T is for the TARDIS (because I'm a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing.

Anyway, I hope you buy it at least twice. Thank you.

This Audible Exclusive features a song, performed by Matt Lucas, with full musical backing.

Critic reviews

"One of the biggest and most talented comedy stars that the UK has ever presented." (Peter Capaldi)
"Matt is not only hilarious and kind, he's probably the most generous person I know. All of which is wonderfully evident in this book." (Rebel Wilson)
"To be truly unique in this world is almost impossible to achieve; this book is about someone who achieved it. Raw, honest, funny and moving." (James Corden)

Bright & Breezy

Matt Lucas understandably doesn’t want to go into the most hurtful aspects of his life & is very candid about that. This is a bright & breezy account of his work but he does touch on a lot the trials & tribulations he’s had to overcome. A really well read & entertaining audio.

Fascinating insight into the author’s life

I love listening to authors read their own books and Matt Lucas brings the book alive by his narration. It’s like sitting across the table while he recounts his life story so far. All that is missing is some chocolate and other tasty snacks! (If you listen to the book you’ll understand.)

I knew very little about him or what he has done including his most famous work. But I loved hearing about how he came to be where he is with his life and the people with whom he has worked or been connected. It certainly revealed that he is not simply a funny man, but someone who works hard at what he does and was clearly destined to be a very popular and funny man.

His frank explanation of some of his personal life is both revealing and informative. I hope he has simply reached a pause in his life and not a professional full stop. He explains that what we see and take for granted when comedic actors perform is soundly based in hard work and talent.

A very enjoyable read and like all good books one that left me a little sadder for having reached the end knowing I won’t be having my private (albeit one-sided) conversation with Matt anymore.

I love this guy

I had just finished listening to an autobiography of another celebrity who took victimhood to new levels. I was delighted that this book by contrast is a study of overcoming adversity with determination, told in an honest and very humorous way. I honestly don't think that Matt Lucas has a malicious bone in his body. I laughed out loud on a train journey when listening to Matt's childhood experience involving a wig. I loved hearing about his relationships with family and friends. This to me is a very uplifting book.

Started great - tailed off

It started great and his early life was very interesting however as it went on it became a bit of a luvvy-fest. How many names could he drop -clang!
It also got repetitive and a little dull as he seemed to run out of new things to talk about; like repeating how successful his appearance in Bridesmaids was for the umpteenth time. His experience and stories of working in the tv and film industry is a little off putting and makes him come across as a little spoilt and precious.

A good listen

An enjoyable listen. I particularly resonated with the section on being gay as we are similar ages. Loved hearing about the little Britain and come fly with me.

First audible experience

This was my first audible experience and I enjoyed it! he has an engaging style and his delivery is lively and keeps the listener interested. I couldnt help but think that in choosing the title he as shoe horned certain chapters in to tfit the A-Z concept but that didnt detract! A good listen

A lot of fun but it's not all laughs

Loved this. Downloaded on a whim after being impressed with how eloquently matt spoke on the Richard Herring podcast. It didn't disappoint.

A treat read by the author himself

Having loved Matt’s performances from the early George Dawes through Little Britain it was a real treat to hear him tell his story. Honest, funny and at times a little raw I really enjoyed hearing his journey.
