Summary

Danny Baker is a national treasure with a well-documented - thanks to the recent eight-part BBC TV adaptation - and colourful life. For over a quarter of a century, he has amused and entertained audiences on both radio and television. Beginning his career at the age of 15 in a small record shop in London's West End, Danny went on to become an acclaimed music journalist and started his radio career on BBC GLR in 1989. With a unique take on life and a lot to say, Danny's latest book is full of his trademark warmth, wit and insight.

Critic reviews

"Quite simply the funniest book you'll read all year...easily as funny, as self-deprecating and as wordly-wise as The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven...it's like Tom and Jerry written by a Cockney Roddy Doyle on Prozac. But funnier." ( GQ Online on Going Off Alarming)
"Rattles along at the same delightful and dizzying pace as its predecessor.... Baker loves a tale told at his own expense and they come thick and fast. He writes like he speaks, with hyperactive garrulity and a rhetorical flourish...there is something about Baker in full flow that is affirming." ( Daily Telegraph on Going Off Alarming)

Glorious glorious Candyman

Oh I have just had the loveliest few weeks listening to all three books. It’s been like having Danny back on the radio in my drive home. Have never read or listened to a better written or performed biog. Stands up and applauds. Thank you Candyman.

Great book, poor audio editing

Like all of Danny Baker’s books this is fantastic - he is a great story teller.

However, there are dozens of occasions within the audio recording where Danny restarts sentences and these have not been edited out.

Love it

There is a very different feel to this third book as it covers the death of the author's much loved dad and his own battle with cancer. There are still lots of hilarious anecdotes but the passing of Spud is dealt with with great tenderness while his description of his cancer treatment pulls no punches. I have enjoyed all three books in this series, perhaps because he describes so well a world I also grew up in. As he says he remembers everything but I seem to have forgotten so much so it is great to be reminded of a different time.

Get it NOW - absolutely amazing

I have listened to well over 100 audiobooks and this is by far one of the best I’ve listened to.

Danny Baker is one of my favourite presenters / writers so I am biased but trust me, the way Danny describes his stories is like nectar to the ears.

A wonderful range of emotions are felt through this book, mostly laughing.

If you’ve read this far it means you’ve not bought it yet, procrastinate no more, you’ll be glad you did.

Perfect

Ah Danny, I love you mate. Of the 3 volumes this is perhaps the saddest but Danny comes through it in such a down to earth way that you feel churlish for breaking down in tears. I love you Danny.

These true life adventures are written with so much detail and wit that you sometimes wonder if they are made up, no,all true. I didn’t want it to end.

Treehouse Delight

This concludes 2 weeks of listening to the 3 volumes of his life story. Danny has the ability to recall and tell stories that make you laugh and choke up in equal measures. I particularly like the way it seems he's talking to you, not reading to you like other autobiographies.
