Summary

"And see if there's any news about the missing girl."

Life, as Smith used to say, is just one thing after another - as one investigation ends, a new one begins. But for reasons unknown to the rest of her team, DCI Cara Freeman will be haunted by the next case for the Kings Lake Central murder squad. They find themselves delving into the seamy side of life in the town, and one of their number will have departed before this new investigation is over. Perhaps Detective Sergeant Chris Waters should have seen it coming, but he has a lot more than work on his mind these days.

Great, as usual

Love the series, following on from the wonderful "DC Smith Investigation" series, and this one as usual, is beautifully written with super narration and full of well rounded characters who get even more interesting with each book.
Time, I think, to go back and relisten to all the books, what a treat. Thank you Mr Grainger!

Another triumph!

The continuing story of the Kings Lake team with a few starring DC moments and recollections is as ever excellent. Gildart Jackson's reading and portrayal of the characters is as ever superb. Thank you Peter Grainger and Gildart Jackson. Hopefully, the next book is in progress?

very convincingly written beautifully read

Peter Grainger has to be one of my favourite writers. His tales are so very believable and well informed that you are pulled away from the mundane world and into his . Its not glamorous or pretty but you feel a liking for the characters.

Good Characterisation.

The plot unfolded at a steady pace and the expectation that a client was the murderer seemed inevitable. Each of the team delivered their piece of the puzzle. The personal stories of characters ran alongside the main theme giving added texture. An excellent story.

Just perfect

Yet another lovely book even though the theme is a hard one to listen to and consider. Once again the sensitivity and humour is outstanding and speaks of someone with a great deal of life experience. The ending of this author’s books is always a tear jerker and this is no exception. It always leaves me wanting* more. Just excellent and so satisfying.

Perfect narration made for a great listen

Often I find a good book can be ruined by the wrong narrator, but not in this case. Gildart Jackson is able to convey the dry wit of the author’s characters perfectly.
I look forward to the next Kinglake book.
