Summary
It Started with a Secret: the scorching new novel of this summer, from the Sunday Times best-selling author.
The trouble with secrets is that you can't guess what the consequences will be....
Lainey has lost everything. Luckily one little fib (OK, quite a big fib) helps nail her dream job. Soon she's living in a stunning house by the sea, fending off obsessed fans for a retired - if far-from-retiring - actor and organising his charming but chaotic family. It's definitely worth the challenge of keeping her secret.
At least Lainey isn't looking for love. It's time for a break from all that. And yet...Seth, the actor's grandson, really is rather attractive. There's growing chemistry and a definite connection between them. But how would he react if he knew she hadn't been honest with him?
Lainey's not the only one with a secret, though. Seth has one of his own. And everything's about to start unravelling....
A beautiful Cornish setting, one chaotic family and a woman who's had enough of love. Or has she?
Critic reviews
"Like a little blast of sunshine - uplifting, heartwarming and supremely feelgood." (Sophie Kinsella)
"Gripping and incredibly comforting." (Marian Keyes)

Fabulous!
Oh this book delivers everything! , you invest and love the characters, all with such different personalities and stories, but you really want to be part of the mad family.
The story goes along very well, and there are some giggles along the way (Specially the guitar player!)
Narration is fabulous - there is NO reason why you should not purchase this book!!

Awful
Where do I start? The "performer" gabbles this thing out at 100 miles per hour, like she can't wait to get to the end, often sacrificing all expression. The story starts out promising, but soon disintegrates into the mush of meaningless, grey pulp. The characters, again start promisingly, but fade to 1-dimensional, cardboard cut-outs.

Started with a secret and ended with a big thumbs
I love Jill’s books as even if there is a few bumps along the way there is usually always a nice happy ending to look forward to... and ‘It Started with a Secret’ was no exception.
Lainey and Kit, fresh from losing their jobs in a beautiful French chateau (and their boyfriend in Lainey’s case), decide to become a fake couple to take on a new job in St Carys in Cornwall as live in help to the family there. What a super plan - how could it fail... only Kit is gay and Lainey soon develops a crush on her handsome new boss Seth!
It was a lovely listen, the kind of book I would usually enjoy on holiday, so given the good weather of the last few days I decided this was perfect to read on staycation in the garden.
The descriptions of the idyllic locations in the book were great and really painted a picture in my mind of the settings both in France and Cornwall.
All the main characters were lovely - even the ones with minor flaws were very endearing.
Lovely story and narration.
A thoroughly enjoyable listen - grab it while the sun is shining!!

Narration was pretty bad
The narrator at parts sounded like she was trying to win a time trial! Some parts better than others but took away from the enjoyment

Escapist romance delight
Loved the characters and the way their lives elegantly resolved themselves . Sigh if only real life worked this way - a treat to listen to.

Easy going story
Great for when you need a light hearted escape. I wasn’t keen on the narrator but you get used to it. The sweet story is worth it.
