Heart burstingly feel good

I absolutely love how Jessica Redlands Whitburough Bay books. The way they all are their own individual story, journey and characters, who all interconnect either closely or just as part of their community.
Definitely always leave me feeling warm, fuzzy, full of hope and wanting more.
Please keep them coming.

Get your tissues

As I finish one book from the pen of Jessica I think that they can’t get any better well believe me they do and this one will not disappoint you.
I don’t tend to read book now I use the audible version because it means I can be deeply involved at all times of the day. So narration is extremely important and again you will not be dissatisfied with this production.
We will be back in the small town we know and live we will hear of some of our other characters from the town and landmarks.
So don’t delay out your order In.

Warm, well-written, well-performed & wonderful!

I am a HUGE fan of Jessica Redlands and this book doesn't disappoint. I've never found an author who manages to so flawlessly interconnect her previous characters and use the world she has created to make the listener feel completely enveloped in each story. I just want "more, more more"! Lucy performs beautifully as always and Gareth has a calm, if somewhat, a little monotone approach which makes it a really true easy listen. I would highly recommend this book and all the others in the series.

Brilliant

Loved this book. I have now read all of the Jessica Redland Whitsborough Bay books and they get better and better. They are a lighthearted listen and I particularly enjoyed the narrating of both a woman and a man.
I don’t read books anymore just audible as I can really get into the character plus it passes the time so much better. Thoroughly recommend

An atmospheric Christmas story with engaging characters

After listening to ‘Starry Skies over the Chocolate Pot Cafe’, I decided to try another Jessica Redland book. This book follows a very similar formular with family tragedy, the main character owning a cafe and making crafts, and is ultimately a heart warming love story. I didn’t mind that it was similar and It was well-narrated by both narrators, telling the story of two main characters, Holly and Jake, from each of their viewpoints. The story and was atmospheric with well developed and interesting characters. I enjoyed listening to this story over the Christmas period as it had a festive feel.

Wallowing in grief and loss

A slow-paced novel of loss and grief. I am struggling with how to rate it - there were parts that I liked very much but other parts that just didn't work for me.

What did I like? {Mr} Pickles, the dog, instigates a great deal of the action of the book and he's terrific. I thought the author did a great job describing the setting. The themes of family were wonderful, and I liked Hollie's hobby of working with driftwood.

Unfortunately most of the book wallowed in grief and inaction. It was entirely too long. At least 9 hours of the 10.5 hour audiobook were spent grieving. It went on so long that the main characters began to look wimpy and weak. Yes, they both had excellent reasons for their sadness, but I stopped feeling sympathy for them at some point. And that's not a good thing for the reader to feel about the main characters! I also thought that Larissa, Jake's sister, was two-dimensional. She was evil, but without any motivation for it.

I'm afraid I just didn't enjoy the book as much as I hoped I would. I finished it, but it took longer than usual because I was overwhelmed by the sadness and grief. And after all that unhappiness, the ending was too brief and I was left with the feeling that the couple wasn't strong enough to stay together.

LOVELY STORY, IN-DEPTH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, BUT

I really enjoyed this bittersweet love story, and the character development was excellent. I really got to know Holly and Jake, and I enjoyed their story of overcoming great losses so they could move on with their lives and find true love.

The only part of the story that I disliked was the decision Holly made at the very end to invite Jake to live with her, even though it was obvious that they loved each other and should get married.

I know this is the way of things today, but both of these people came from loving marriages, and they had no reason to fear the commitment implied by an engagement, and eventual marriage before they moved in together.
