Summary

In an era of public versus private personas, a young woman decides to shake up her ordinary life by becoming a contestant on a reality television show. The manufactured paradise has no clocks, no way to contact the outside world, and nothing but time, a pool, and gorgeous people. As the days or weeks or months pass by, she discovers more about herself through the people around her and challenges her notions of identity and love. In a paradise where the only game is to fall in love, what will she do to win?

Original drama

While this is a very original & clever way of looking at reality TV, I can't decide if it's brilliant or not.

The narration is excellent & I enjoyed the story as a whole; it sums up our vacuous society & obsession with fame & 'celebrity' brilliantly, but I expected more somehow & was left feeling slightly flat at the end – maybe that’s the point though.

As it's quite short, it passed the time while doing the housework but I’m glad I didn’t use a credit on it.

Great narration

started well, story quite current and will appeal to listeners, it is clever if a little patronising at times (I think its designed to be ironic), what I really didnt like was how the character referred to herself as we, it just irratated and spoiled excellent narration

Fantastic!

The story is brilliant and Daisy Ridley is such an amazing narrator. She is so enthusiastic and tells the story and details perfectly. She is the best choice for this! Absolutely amazing, love this and love Daisy.

Not sure why the narrator is in the third person

I’m not sure why the narrator of the story is in the third person. A bit confusing as I originally thought it was about a group of people. The narrator can still be non-binary and use I and me. It was very off putting

Enjoyable, original piece

I bought this because I enjoy Daisy Ridley's voiceover work, and I was not disappointed - her mellifluous tones were easy to listen to and also well matched to the content. The story is an engaging piece - though I'm not a Love Island fan, I appreciated the author's attempt to shine a light on the implicit exploitation involved in shows like this, and simultaneously to explore the agency and motivations of those who participate. I felt it fell a bit flat at the end but would recommend overall.

A nuanced look at fame, class and gender

This play tackles the messy subject of how fame, especially reality TV fame, impacts and exploits the young and emotionally vulnerable for both its own ends and the entertainment of others. The story follows a contestant on a Love Island style show and unpicks how her decisions could easily be all of ours (the use of a narrative 'we' for the majority of the piece is very clever, particularly in the audio medium, and resolves to a subtle but satisfying pay off). That it is narrated by a woman who found enormous fame so young only deepens the experience. Complex, but very much worth your time.

Daisy Ridley's voice is mesmerizing.

The truth is, Daisy Ridley could have narrated Hoover instructions and I would more than likely still devourer every word.

Presumably the story itself wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea due to it's style and rhythm but what is?

Thank you Daisy. Please do some more narration work.

Please listen!

The story was very interesting but was elevated even further by the amazing performance of Daisy Ridley, adding such depth and emotion to the story. The enthusiasm from Daisy is phenomenal and maintained throughout, feeling as if you were following her through every detail in the story. Really hope she does more audibles in the future. Loved the story and loved Daisy.
