About this listen
This is my autobiography, the exciting story of how I, Ronald Corbett, the son of an Edinburgh baker, became convinced that I had to seek my fortune and become an actor, of how I pursued that goal, found fame on television as one of The Two Ronnies, and managed to meet a fabulous cast of extraordinary people along the way.
First I'll take you back to my schooldays and reveal the technique I developed for estimating the height of a girl before daring to ask her to dance. I'll explain how I first met David Frost, John Cleese and Michael Palin, and shamelessly reveal how I once played Othello to Danny La Rue's Desdemona, having just had dinner with Laurence Olivier. I'll also tell you about the time I was suddenly struck down by a mysterious illness that destroyed my sense of balance and prevented me from going on stage for several years.
Altogether I must admit, it is a truly dramatic story. I only hope my mother won't be too shocked!

It was a decision about which I have no regrets.
He writes interestingly, and warmly, about almost everyone and it's touching that respect and affection were of equal measure whether someone was a family member or a new acquaintance.
I loved his honesty about his open admiration for people who were big stars when he was young, there is no artificial coolness here :)
I would recommend this book whether you've liked his work or not. He has known incredible characters, people with life stories that you just couldn't make up!
The writing is simple and honest despite being liberally sprinkled with the glitter of some of the largest names in show business (and a few east end gangsters too!) although he doesn't come across as a name dropper, he's just a modest man, mentioning the names of his colleagues.
Ordinary and yet extraordinary is how he, and his life, come across.
A thoroughly enjoyable, humourous, interesting, listen...and it wouldn't have been anywhere near the wonderful experience that it has been had it not been read by the big wee man himself.
An extraordinary Life.
