Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Two exes. One pact.

Could this holiday change everything?

Harriet and Wyn are the perfect couple—they go together like bread and butter, gin and tonic, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Except, now they don't.

They broke up six months ago. And they still haven't told anyone.

Which is how they end up sharing a bedroom at the cottage that has been their yearly getaway with their best friends for the past decade. For one glorious week they leave behind their lives, drink far too much wine and soak up the sea air with their favourite people.

Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth. The cottage is for sale so this is the last time they'll all be together here and they can't bear to break their friends' hearts. So, they'll fake it for one more week.

It's a flawless plan (if you look at it through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses).

But how can you pretend to be in love with someone—and get away with it—in front of the people who know you best?

Brimming with characters you can't help but fall for and off-the-charts chemistry, Happy Place is Emily Henry's best novel yet.

Huge Disappointment

I own all of Emily Henry’s audio books and did not hesitate to pre order this one. I was looking forward with anticipation to curling up in my sanctuary space and listening .

What a disappointment. After 20 chapters I could not take it anymore, so I skipped to the end. What a waste of credit and a waste of time. I do not want to give any spoilers so I will limit the review.

Fantastic

This book makes me want to call all my friends and family and tell them that I love them. It’s a somewhat basic story of love in all its forms, told in an absolutely beautiful, heart wrenching and hilarious way. It’s about the growing up you do in your late twenties, and the priorities and consequences of the way you chose to live your life, but also that it’s never too late to be introspective and change if something isn’t working.
Narrator also did a stunning job!

Too hyped

I did like this book, but I had too high expectations beforehand. It's being hyped all over socials at the minute. Also, I think Julia Whelan gives a good preformance, similar to other Emili Henry books

Predictable, slow and boring

I hate giving negative views as reading / listening to book is my favourite hobby and I love to be immersed in a good story. I just found this so tedious to get through, the story is predictable and honestly nothing happens in the book. I could have finished it after chapters 10 after I predicted the ending. The only part of the book I found good was the way in which they deal with the pain of grief and how it feels to lose a loved one. The main character is so irritating and lacks any personality. I found the groups behaviour and conversations immature I can’t believe these are people in their early 30s. They carry on like they are 18-22. I will be returning this book and again I hate giving a negative review but need to be honest. Save your credit on this one.

Another great novel from Emily Henry

Beautifully written reflecting love in all its forms, and so true about the nuances of relationships that get in the way.

A realistic view of friendship

Not only a romantic story but also a realistic view of how growing up and discovering ourselves can affect our relationships.
I also loved the clever way each chapters are titled.
I could have done without the sex scenes though.
A feel good read, not riveting or a page turner for me but still funny and interesting.

This book got me

It took a while for this book to draw me in but once it did I was so invested in this friendship group. Many lessons taken on board as a friend, wife, sister and daughter.

Perfect summer listening

I try to save my monthly audiobook for the commute, but I just wanted to listen to this all the damn time. Charming, funny, sad, kind of cliche/disingenuous in places, but who cares when escapism is this good.

Gorgeous

If you've loved Emily Henry's other books for the character growth and the sweetness, you'll love this one. It broke my heart and stitched it back up.

Update: I just reread my Emily Henry collection and this is by far my favourite. Deeply emotional and the performance is so good. I don't usually like the voices that audible narrators make but Julia Whelan really enhanced the story. She is officially my favourite Audible narrator.

If you are in the mood for something that tugs at your gremlin heart, this is it. If you've ever had a sad breakup, bring tissues.
