Story
I'll be there. Through thick and thin. Ride or die. You can count on me. The promises people make. The vows we take. Assumptions of the heart. Emotion tells us how we feel, but life...life has a way of plunging us in boiling water, burning away our illusions, testing our faith, trying our convictions. Love floating is a butterfly, but love tested is an anchor. For Grip and Bristol, love started at the top of the world on a Ferris wheel under the stars, but when that love is tested, will they fly or fall?

Think you know what it's like being a baller's girl? You don't. My fairy tale is upside down. A happily never after. I kissed the prince, and he turned into a fraud. I was a fool, and his love - fool's gold. Now there's a new player in the game, August West. One of the NBA's brightest stars. Fine. Forbidden. He wants me. I want him. But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won't let me go.

For months I stood by, an understudy waiting in the wings, preparing for my time to shine. I never imagined he would watch in the audience that night. Canon Holt. Famous film director. Fascinating. Talented. Fine. Before I could catch my breath, everything changed. I went from backstage Broadway to centerstage Hollywood. From being unknown to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone’s lips. Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic, catapulting me into another stratosphere. But stars shine brightest in the dead of night.

I had two things in life that mattered. My mother and my music. Mama was taken from me too soon, and now music is all I have left. It's the thing that's pushed me right out of backwoods Georgia into Los Angeles, where the line between fantasy and reality shimmers and blurs. I'm finally making my way, making my mark. I can't afford to fall for one of music's brightest stars. Not now. Music is all I have left, and I'm holding on tight with both hands.

Raised to resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option. Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we're the pawns and players. Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Summary
Resisting an irresistible force wears you down and turns you out.
I know - I've been doing it for years.
I may not have a musical gift of my own, but I've got a nose for talent and an eye for the extraordinary.
And Marlon James - Grip to his fans - is nothing short of extraordinary.
Years ago, we strung together a few magical nights, but I keep those memories in a locked drawer and I've thrown away the key. All that's left is friendship and work.
He's on the verge of unimaginable fame, all his dreams poised to come true.
I manage his career, but I can't seem to manage my heart. It's wild, reckless, disobedient - and it remembers all the things I want to forget.
Contains mature themes.

Kennedy Ryan does it again with this fantastic second chance romance duet. A couple fi d love in the face of diversity and adversity. This is so well researched and written. Brilliantly narrated, this is a duet that I will definitely recommend to all Kennedy Ryan followers, readers and any new listeners. Omg Kennedy had had me welling up, not just with frustration but heck the feelings I've been having throughout the entire time What first off with Bristol not admitting or letting Grip know how she TRULY Feels.
But heck the emotion Bris puts herself through whilst she‘s NOT WANTING to admit her dying love for Grip, by setting him up.
But heck THIS is one of the best Books I've read/listened to & I've read some GREAT READS 😖😱😢😢😍😍😍

This was hard to listen to!
This story makes no sense and as a black woman I am insulted by the stereotypes. Not sure what was worse, him waiting 8 years, her making him wait because of her parents, him saying her calling his home “our” home was worth going to jail. This was written by someone who does not understand the black experience.

How unfortunate
I found this book to be complex not in character development but in how it degraded black women. Every black woman was portrayed as being vulgar, bitter and unwavering. How typical! Readers have no other choice but to empathize with the plight of the main character a white woman despite that she is the only character that says the n word repeatedly despite all of the black characters in the book. She is described as being elegant while the black women are objectified for their body types and sexuality. How unfortunate! This proud black woman will be returning this horrible excuse for a riveting novel!

So relevant With a Side of Hot and Sexy
I don’t want to marginalize the messages in this book with my silly over excited review. This book is deep, easy to read and just plain HOT. I’ve read over 500 romance books, and there are only a handful of authors that rise to this level or writing and story. I wish we had a real life grip to listen to his songs. I wish we could see this made into a movie. Or the world Kennedy Ryan creates, made into a movie or tv series. I WISH BOOKS LIKE THIS would be PLACED in MAJOR RETAILERS. It reminds me of a grown up “The Hate You Give”. Grip (through the authors words) gives us that view from both sides and has us witnessing events that we think we may understand. Just to show us that we have so much more to learn.

Epic!!
Grip is more than a love story, it's a life story. The beautiful, stolen moments amidst the ugliness, unfairness and judgments of life. Grip is Epic.
Grip and Bristol's story has been long awaited. We've watched their dance while falling in love with Rhyson and Kai. We've seen their instant attraction, fears, and frustrations throughout the Soul Series. Now it's their turn.
Flow introduces young Bristol and Marlon "Grip". A simple week changes their future.
Grip brings real life struggles. Love chooses you. You don't choose love. Love is hearts and souls finding their other half regardless of race, religion, sex, income, education. It's not easy and it doesn't work without trust and respect.
Their dance spans several years and her avoidance is painful to them both. He's hurting. She's hurting. She's hurting him. Bristol makes a decision that could destroy them both and everything changes. This can't go on.
This is a HEA story but along the way are some of life's biggest obstacles, seemingly ripped from the news. Grip is as real as it gets. One week, years of hurt, many lifetimes of injustice, and a love so deep. Grip will make you think. It will make you feel the gamut of emotions. And it will give you hope.
Kennedy Ryan has written an Epic story in Grip. It is a story like no other.
This was an audio re-read and these narrators brought an already amazing story to life. Fantastic narrators. Jakobi Diem had me melting!! 🤗🤗

Loved the story and message!
This was a unique story that dealt a lot with current issues such as racial profiling and prejudice. The hero is such a sexy guy! The heroine just needs to learn to trust in his love, but has been damaged by a childhood where she was pretty invisible. There are moments of tension and suspense. While the sexy scenes are hot! The narration was well performed also.

Good love story but....
I like jakobi but wasnt a fan of maxines tone and the way she pronouced words...and someone should have told her how to pronounce sa-di-ty. Although I appreciate the love story it would have been nice to show the black woman in a more graceful light in opposed to angry and bitter. Lastly the cover art is misleading as it seems to be a white man when Grip is a black man
