Summary

Get the Flight of the Javelin box set, featuring all three books in the Amazon best-selling series. Space opera action perfect for fans of Jay Allan, Jennifer Foehner Wells, and JN Chaney.

Fifteen years into a 20-year voyage, war veteran Captain Throttle Reyne is looking forward to taking a break from dealing with malfunctions, glitches, and the hassles of monitoring a thousand colonists in cryo-sleep.

But when her colony ship breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Throttle and her crew must leave the colonists behind to search for help. They find a ship that's not only missing a crew...it's clearly not from their star system.

It's the discovery of a lifetime. All they need to do is tow the mysterious vessel back to their colony ship for further study, and Throttle won't ever have to work again. One problem. While they're away, the colony ship is stolen - with the colonists still on board.

Throttle gives chase to a lawless star system on the outer rim. To get their colonists back, they must take on the pirates and ganglords who will do anything - and sell anyone - to make a buck.

They play dirty. But Throttle and her crew play dirtier.

Don't miss your chance to experience this space opera thrill ride in this special edition omnibus. Fast-paced, action-packed, and full of unforgettable characters both human and alien.

A bit of a let down after the Fringe books

I was hoping for a decent continuation of the fringe series of books, I'm not sure if its just the somewhat mediocre narration that let's it down or the story its self.

More to come?

Although this says it is a complete series books 1-3 the last book leaves you wondering if there will be another book, if not it was left with a lot of unanswered questions. I did enjoy the series and the narrator was quite good. This is a typical space story, captain - ship - crew and battles along the way. Plus 3 books for 1 credit is a bargain.

The three books where well read by the actor

I like the space of the three books and the way the actor created the characters was well thought out. I look forward to hearing book 4

Simple but flowing space story

The performance I gave 5 to as it is generally fine, I only give less on the whole if it really grates with me, this did not and sometimes it is very much a personal preference.
The story if fairly straight forward but engaging, it flows well and draws you along, it is not majorly original if you listen to a good amount of SciFi but that is no bad thing. It is futuristic but not fantastical science and that is a part of it which I like life in the deep dark is still a struggle. Care relationships and characters are generally good and you can relate to them. The salvage, revenge aspects are straight forward and it does feel like you are getting an insight to the daily life of the characters which I liked. Overall I did enjoy it and would say it is worth a listen. Once I have gotten through my backlog of titles I would be happy to consider another book from this author.

really enjoyed this one

good story with strong female lead. Although it's a series each book could stand alone - no cliff hangers though each book does set the next one up. Loved the narrator!

"Complete set" is a misnomer.

With about 2 hours left in the 3rd book I realized this will rush to get finished or will not be the last book in the series. I'm glad the ending wasn't rushed but I'm disappointed that the series is not complete and according to the authors website she hasn't started book 4 yet.
The story was highly enjoyable and the performance was excellent.

And the stakes keep rising.

Since I already reviewed the first 2 audiobooks individually, I'll touch on the last one here. Great voice acting - she really sounded like a young girl when needed. Skip the epilog if you don't like cliffhangers. Has a bit of a problem that I don't know the solution for - conversations involving several people have a lot of ".. said" which can get annoying.

I was given this audiobook for free and have voluntarily left this review.

Shooting, hand grenades, fighting, pirates

Title represents much of Javelin’s story, various groups shooting at each other beginning to end.
Would have enjoyed a future based imaginary adventure with technical science details, however this story has little more than a variety of fight/ skirmish scenes.

Really fun, Space Opera!

This was a really fun Space Opera, and a perfect, adrenaline-charged romp! It's got fast pacing, and a ship captained by a kickass protagonist (Throttle). Throttle's ship breaks down in the middle of the "Dark". Nowhere really... and no hope of rescue. Right away we realize how special Throttle is when she's doing laps around the deck. She falls and tweaks one of her leg braces, only noticing that she's cut her leg when she sees the blood... yeah, an old spinal injury...
And then there's the Pirates, a ghost ship with an AI, and a Space Station where lots of shady deals go down! If that's not enough to titillate you, I really don't know what will! The book reminds me a little of the works of Nathan Lowell, Jennifer Foehner Wells or Rebecca Chambers 1st book... the way they write about the crew, and the camaraderie. But there's also a space battle too!
To top it off you have Emily Woo Zeller doing a Bang-up job of narration!
You're definitely gonna wanna get the boxed set because all 3 books are dynamite!
You'll be able to see all my reviews under the individual titles!

Closer to screenplays than books

This still gives good value for a three book, space opera run. However, this runs like a screenplay. Screenplays are outlines that gets right to the dialogue, with minor plot points/directions (exit stage left). Screenplays then rely on the visuals of the actors, costumes and sets, along with differing voices, sound effects, and clever dialogue to take a story concept from interesting to full package. Unfortunately, here there isn't much clever dialogue. The visuals, backstories and universe are thinly written. The plots are
TV level-straightforward.

After three books, I couldn't tell you the color of any characters' hair or skin (except that the A.I. has an Irish brogue because...? no reason). Most characters have 1 quality and only any backstory if its necessary for the story. Throttle: bum legs and veteran (and the leg issue is ignored and contributes nothing by book 2). Burke: former pirate (no, none of his former days are ever described). Chief Rue: Grizzled old guy. Eddie: tech schlub. Mutt: ruthless gutter-rat king.

I liked the concepts and plots, and give the author props for being willing to sacrifice major characters, but all the way through and I never came to care for the characters, victories, or losses. Contributing to the bland picture was the narration, which played like the annoying volume control issues between TV shows and commercials. I've liked Ms. Woo Zeller in other books (and she does a phenomenal kid voice in book 3), but she has this tendency to whisper the story, then yell the dialogue, then whisper the story; depending where I kept the volume the narration either lulled me sleep or hurt my ears.

Finally, there's a Flash Gordon epilogue in book 3 that sets up an apparently never forthcoming book 4. Frankly, not sure I'd listen to a book 4 unless it was on sale or part of another 3-pack.

For better military action with a legless veteran, go with books 2-5 of Extinction Cycle by N Sansbury Smith (books 1-6 can be had in two collections, and the series ends at book 7, but the original arc of five books is the best).
For space opera, stick with the Firefly series or try the Fallen Kingdom series by L Buroker (little campier, but a lot more engaging).

great series. let down at end.

It was a good series and I liked the characters. Ending is bad. it was like they were setting up for a 4th book. but it's been 3 years now so I doubt it's coming. Is the narration was awesom Although I thought it was weird that with female narration it had so many male characters.

Enjoyable yarn. Cringeworthy scientific details

This is a smorgasbord of typical tropes. It was assembled in an entertaining way which makes it great for background listening as you are occupied doing real world stuff. My biggest problem is that the author does not seem to have a real sense of science (or military) so the military and scientific particulars of the story are glaring detractors from the overall experience.
Scientific Faux Pas
1. Black holes are not made of "black matter"; whatever that is
2. One does not fly through black holes. One is spaghettified and dies a horrible death.
3. At .3 lightspeed, most interstellar travel is impossible within a human lifetime (Alpha Centauri is our closest neighbor at 4 LY resulting in a travel time of about 12 years one way).
4. similarly, unless FTL communications were developed, messages would take centuries to reach between the points described in the book
5. You cant "bank" a spacecraft
6. If you use terms like "Stopped", "up", "down" etc. you also have to call out a "relative to" qualifier.

There were comments about the narration. I can understand that, but Ms. Zellers voice resonates very well with me personally

If you use the word "complete" in the description, the story should finish at the end.

worse stacked on worse

just bad luck stacked on bad luck. no time to get attached to anyone before the shit starts raining down on the captain and her crew.
I'll take a pass only a few hours in. waste of a credit.
if I wanted to feel like shit, I'd turn on Fox news
