Edgar Allan Poe was a writer, poet, editor and literary critic. Poe is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his tales of mystery and the macabre, and is widely regarded as a central figure of Romanticism in the United States and of American literature. Poe was one of the country's earliest practitioners of the short story and considered to be the inventor of the detective fiction genre, as well as a significant contributor to the emerging genre of science fiction.

A few hidden gems

It took me a while to get through this and I read about 20 books whilst taking breaks from it. I would say 60% of the stories are not much more than gibberish but when you hit a good one they are well worth ploughing through the rest of the collection to get to. The Predicament is utterly fantastic with brilliant, memorable characters and William Wilson and The Tell Tale Heart are also great listening. There are of course the well know stories like The Pit And The Pendulum which are well worth listening too. What really makes this collection of stories rewarding listening is the always wonderful Jonathan Keeble who is one of the best narrators on Audible, his performance is faultless. He narrates a lot of Warhammer books and is always a joy to listen to. Overall the collection was a bit hard going but a few stories will stick with me for some time!
