I tried to finish this book but have given up half way, I have read/listened to many post apocalypse books and this is the first one that I have abandoned. The main characters have nothing to make you like them enough to be invested in the story, perhaps if the books were condensed down to half the size as they are just too long and repetitive.

Just Too Slow

I didn't know what to expect as I had never read anything from this author, but I really enjoyed it. Not having hordes of zombies following the EMP made the storyline refreshingly realistic. This allowed the characters to develop at a natural speed and demonstrated as a society how dependent we are for others to manage and prepare our basic needs. Yes it did contain a band of super soldiers who can take on a large army armed only with a tin opener and walk away with barely a scratch but the author did attempt to demonstrate their human frailties.
If you like this genre you are in for a treat (including people like me who have a secret hidden pleasure in books like this as they provide an escape from the mundane and horrors of real life).

Are Americans really like this that they think come the end of the world the majority will become evil?! I can accept desperation because of fear of food famine etc, but so much large scale evil?!

I really wanted to like these books but they just didn't tick the boxes. The story felt quite forced as if the author had a list of things that had to happen, weapons that needed to be mentioned , people that had to die or survive . I found myself fast forwarding a lot of chapters especially from book 3 onwards.. The narration was OK but had a very mature voice which sounded rather strange as the main character was a 16 year old girl.
3 * for me all round.
