Summary

New York Times best-selling author Maria V. Snyder brings her Poison Study series to its exhilarating conclusion.

Despite the odds, Yelena and Valek have forged an irrevocable bond - and a family - that transcends borders. Now, when their two homelands stand on the brink of war, they must fight with magic and cunning to thwart an Ixian plot to invade Sitia.

Yelena seeks to break the hold of the insidious Theobroma that destroys a person's resistance to magical persuasion. But the Cartel is determined to keep influential citizens and Sitian diplomats in thrall - and Yelena at bay. With every bounty hunter after her, Yelena is forced to make a dangerous deal.

With might and magic, Valek peels back the layers of betrayal surrounding the Commander. At its rotten core lies a powerful magician...and his latest discovery. The fate of all rests upon two unlikely weapons. One may turn the tide. The other could spell the end of everything.

Best books ever

So. Sad to see they're finished. All the books need an audio book. The glass series and all of the extra books connected to the chronicles of ixia

Fantastic book following up on an awesome series

fantastic book great narrator who offers lots of accents to differentiate the characters. the story line is standard poison study storyline. it does get a bit comical in parts about how many times people are 'rescued' from various situations but this book doesn't dissapointed and continues the story of Valek an Yelena beautifully.

Superb End to an Excellent Series

And this it comes to an end. a very satisfying end for our herd. The story of Valek and Yelena and their extended family reaching it's natural conclusion. Many twists and turns through the inevitable battle arc and with casualties on both sides of the war this book was always going to sting. The Chronicles of Ixia was recommended to me by someone precious and having finished it at last I can say I was glad to be along for this ride. I eagerly await the anticipated Study of Magic and Study of Fire books later this year too.

Dumbed Down :-{

In Book 1 of the Ixia Series, Poison Study, and the two books which followed, Magic and Fire Study, the character of Yelena was smart, competent and savvy, and I realy liked and admired her for her tenacity and courage, given everything she had been forced to endure. Unfortunately in the final three books, Shadow, Night and Dawn Study, clever Yelena has become a simpering idiot, and I seriously wanted to slap her silly, which would have been a vast improvement to the brainless bint she has become. The character of Valek has also turned into a spineless weed. Valek became one of my all time favourite male literary characters, when I first encountered him in Poison Study. But in the final three books, I just wanted to kick him in the *****. I don't know what happened but I am so disappointed with the final three books. One of the few high point was the fantastic narration, by Gabra Zackman. Indeed she was the only thing that kept me listening to the end. I waited a long time for this trilogy to be published, but I doubt I'll wait for any more, if they're anything like this. Not a Happy Kitty :-{

Really disappointing audio

The narration for this book is poor. There are pauses where there shouldn't be, e.g. Councillor 'Pause' Bavol... and the narrators voice is flat, lifeless and hard to engage with. I'm a huge fan of this series and have waited a long time to hear Yelena and Valeks conclusion. I bought the audio book because it was released on Audible earlier than the UK paperback but will have to wait for the physical copy as I find my attention wandering with this version.
