Summary
In the ruins of his world, Harrison Cody follows a mysterious voice on the radio as he and his pixie sidekick travel on foot across a terrifyingly random landscape.
They discover Dorothy O'Neill, who has had to survive among monsters when her greatest worry used to be how to navigate high school.
Together they search for what remains of Chicago, and the hope that civilization can be rebuilt.

Odd, Strange dream material
To be honest I had no idea what was going on. It is sort of like a book version of a Salvador Dali painting, thats the only way that I can explain it. I listened to it while soaking in the bit of sun that we had over the summer so could fully concentrate on what was going on.
It’s a sort of walking survival tale with odd stuff going on. The characters we good enough, sort of likeable mooching along together, it is all a bit random, a couple of genres all mixed up, post apocalyptic, sci fi and fantasy…..it is hard to explain and there was no real explanation of what happened…….I may get the nest book if there is sun next summer…..this book is like Jazz you either like it and get it or its just cobbled together tunes. Still gets five stars though as it definitely made me listen.

Wow!!!
Fantastic!!! I think it’s the best post apocalyptic book I have ever read. Fabulous characters and so incredibly well written. What an imagination just amazing.

Listen to it speeded up - loved the story.
The narrator spoils this. I checked to see if it was an automated voice or a real person. I enjoyed the story though. I rarely stray into this type of genre and I thought it was a good one to listen to between book club books. A bit of escapism is good, I think!

Fantastic Story
I Absoloutly loved this story and am very happy to find there is more in the series. Took a chance on it as it was free in the audible library, and I'm so glad I did! A highly imaginative post-apocalyptic style story and fascinating characters. CSE Cooney is a fantastic narrator. I was a little uncertain at the start, but she does a wide range of voices between characters, and I can't imagine then any other way now! It's definitely one I'll be relistening to at some point.

The slightly lighter tower
“Unhappenings” was my first Edward Aubry novel and I loved it. Full of passion, pain and redemption. The first Mayhem novel reminds me strongly of Stephen King’s Dark Tower magnum opus. But it’s just a little lighter. Highly recommended.

Skip the boring dialogue and you’ll be fine
It was basically good but in parts I found I had lost the will to live. I kept on to the end somehow but it was so terrible that I was amazed that this ever got published. Voices bad to ok and mostly it was like a robot was narrating. She has a beautiful voice however but is a poor narrator. My advice is don’t listen.

Narrated By A Robot.
This is probably a good story.
The reader, who could well be a robot, completely ruins it.
Wasn't able to finish the reading... Pleased I didn't pay for it.

Dull. Very
There’s lots of interesting concepts in the story, but there doesn’t seem to be much of a real plot. I find it really hard to follow and I lost attention a lot. It felt like the whole book could’ve been squeezed into one or two chapters at the beginning to a much much better book
