Summary

Crown Prince Aven Lanuken wants something more than a trophy for a future wife. He wants a woman who will be more friend than follower. A queen who will be more warrior than diplomat. He wants a partner he can trust...with a dangerous secret that's kept him trapped in a dark mountain fortress his entire life.

Mage slave Miara wants something more, too - to find an enemy prince. And not to marry him. She's just received orders for her very first kidnapping. She loathes the idea of it, and it's probably a suicide mission. But she has never failed a mission before and doesn't intend to start now.

Of all the women in the world, why does he have to fall for the one trying to kill him?

Magic, politics, love, and fate collide in the destinies of two people in this fantasy adventure from R. K. Thorne. For lovers of swords and sorcery with a side of romance, Mage Slave is the first novel in the Enslaved Chronicles trilogy.

Loved it

I started this book on my Kindle and did not get very far. That is not against the book so much as the fact I have two toddlers who see the Kindle and the lunge for it. Most of my reading is listening now and this audio book came out later than the kindle version. My only complaint is that I hope we do not have to wait as long for book 2 in the series to be available on audible! Or maybe I am going to have to lock myself in a room to read it because I loved this book!

Aven and Miara were likeable and believable as characters as was their romance. But what I really loved was the fresh way Thorne had them overcome the obstacles in their way. I dont want to write out any spoilers, but if you like romantic fantasy you are doing a serious disservice to yourself by not reading this!

I smell a generic, fantasy love triangle coming on

Nothing really wrong with this story as far as the general writing and plot, but it was just so predictable and generic that I had a hard time finishing it. I already knew where things were going, how the characters would react to eachother, and how it would end. Even the world around them seemed like your run of the mill "fictional magical realm" complete with Elemental mages, kings, handsome princes, gorgeous red headed heroine, slavery is bad and we should stop it message, some kind of sword fighting or horse riding around, kidnapping, and some kind of shenanigans involving a main character turning into an animal at some point. Kind of a yawn. Nothing you don't read already in a lot of fantasy adventure romances. Just wish it had a lot more twists and non-obviouse choices the characters would make. Also, I seriously seriously get that reeking smell of a love triangle about to happen.....kiiiiiilll meeeeeee......

Slow to start BUT left me wanting more by the end.

Struggled in the beginning but progressively better chapters later with a strong ending that makes me want to continue the adventure.

A warrior prince, an enslaved spy & great plot

Not once was I bored, a fast paced and action packed well-written fantasy novel. Excellent world building. Great job on the narration. Both main characters were likeable and can't wait for the 2nd book to find out what happens next.

I recommend this audiobook.

story great but the narration is a bit odd

Just loved this book...but some times it felt like a Midwestern mom was reading it to me in bed. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with that but it doesn't go with the setting or story at all...

Decent ya fantasy

Story pacing ok, characters a little one dimensional, magic system and world weakly built. Pretty good overall concept.

Predictable

Really predictable and more of a romance novel then a fantasy novel. Not something I would recommend but ok if you need to waste some time.

cheesy and juvenile writing and performance.

horrible dialogue, worse internal monologues. overall story has potential but characters were forgettable at best but mostly unbelievably annoying and obnoxious. I'm getting my credit back on this one.

Great book

I really liked this book. My only criticism is that the transitions between point of views in narration usually only had a fraction of a pause, especially in the beginning.

Great Performance Poor Story

Any additional comments?

I bought this book Thinking its a fantasy story of intrigue with a splash of romance, but what i get is a romance novel placed in a fantasy setting. Even than, the romance portion is not so well written 1/2 of the way through, rather than reading a romance novel i felt like I was reading the progression of stockholm syndrome.
