Summary

Seattle native Matti Puletasi has the strength of a bear, the stamina of an ox, and a magical hammer inherited from her dwarven mother.

She’s happy renovating homes and occasionally thumping bad guys until she learns of a mysterious artifact hidden under the house she’s working on. Everybody from humans to orcs to werewolves wants it, and they’re willing to kill to get it. Things go from bad to worse when someone frames her for murder.

The only person interested in helping her is a haughty elf assassin from another realm. He’s handsome, powerful, and deadly, but he’s got an agenda of his own. She dare not trust him—or be attracted to him.

But if she can’t clear her name, the assassin will be the least of her worries.

Set in the same world as Death Before Dragons, the Legacy of Magic series is perfect for urban fantasy fans who enjoy adventure, snarky humor, and slow-burn romance with badass elves who should not be trusted. Pick up Book 1, Hammered, today!

I just couldn’t get in to this

It’s a shame because I like lots of other titles by Lindsay. But I couldn’t listen to this.

Great start to the series.

Being a fan of the death before dragons series I was excited to find out about the series. And I'm happy that this book doesn't disappoint. Matti is a great character and I'm looking forward to where her story goes. It was also great to see Val from an outside perspective during her moments. I can't wait for the other audiobooks to be released.

Best new urban fantasy series since DbD!

I bought 'Hammered' as an e-book in November and just purchased the audiobook because Vivienne Leheny is one of my favorite narrators.

She gives another fantastic performance, though at first I heard Val's voice instead of Matti's. This probably occurred because after I finished reading book 3, 'Trolled,' I started re-listening to the 'Death Before Dragons' series!

Leheny's acting skills bring Buroker's works even more to life, maybe because we're all 5 year olds at heart, and we want a reader who can do the squeaky goblin voices, baritone dragon grumbling, and gruff troll threats along with believable, likable human-dwarven protagonists.

I'm a huge Lindsay Buroker fan, and her 'DbD' is my favorite series by her. Time will tell if 'Legacy of Magic' will change that, because I adore Matti and feel at home with her & her friends. I like that 'Hammered' is set in the same universe as DbD (Washington state), and some of DbD characters pop in for substantial cameos (Val, Sindari, Willard). But it is thoroughly Matti's story. This new character & her friends stand on their own, but who wouldn't be happy also to see a half-elven warrior, a dragon, and a silver tiger grace the scene? I like that Matti is a talented artisan & half dwarf, since elves usually get all the glory in fantasy works. Matti has issues about her appearance that make her extremely relatable, but she's confident about her artistry and strength. Matti has dimensions that make her an atypical fantasy heroine, and I loved that Buroker set this story in the domain of house flipping & real estate. This added a lot to the humor, which is one of her strengths as a writer. She delivers great snark, and her main characters defend themselves almost as much with wit as with hammers and swords. Leheny delivers well-timed quips, and you can hear the eye rolls in her voice when Matti's sarcastic, but she's also great at evoking emotions and excitement. I already can't wait for the next audiobook in the series, 'Betrayed.'

No spoilers

I don't have one bad word to say about Buroker's book every single book I've listened to has Been fantastic. all have characters you'll love and want to know about. there's a perfect balance of humor, romance and action. I will say this the first book in each series starts slow at least for me then about 1\4 to 1\2 way point the books take off and keep getting better and better Leheny is so good so don't hesitate getting the Audible. I do recommend you listen to Death before Dragons before you start this book series this book is in the same universe and some of the characters carries over but I promise you won't be a bit sorry can't wait for more in this series to come out in Audible really wish it didn't take as long as it dose . can't wait this book and frankly all of Buroker's books are a Auto buy no if ands or buts for me always consistently good

Buroker hits another home run in this continuation

Lindsay is the queen of fantasy and snark. If you have a sarcastic bent then you'll love this continuation of Death Before Dragons. Maddie is not the half elf heroin you would expect but she packs a punch, literally and figuratively. You cant go wrong on this book by using one of your precious credits on this book..

Love this!

Great to get back into the Death Before Dragons world. Enjoyed this storyline immensely. Narrator is wonderful and really brings these characters to life. Purchased first two books on Audible and eagerly awaiting (the rest of the Hammered series) to be released on audible!

Hilarious and different

Thoroughly enjoyed the variety of characters, witty banter, and the way modern times are mixed with magical worlds.

Matty is a different type of main character and it's fantastic, hilarious, and dramatic. There's action, pining, thoughtfulness, and joy.

I will be finishing the whole series and adding it to my stack of items I relisten to

Another engaging and entertaining Buroker story!

Reliably entertaining, Buroker spins a great story here that ties in Val and her dragon. One nice thing about her books is that she maintains a light, humorous touch, so you aren't blindsided with real world type violence like so many other fiction authors. Sure, there are supernatural battles, but they are clearly written as fiction.

Highly recommend this series! The narrator, Vivienne Leheny, delivers her usual awesome performance, bringing the characters to life as she reads. Looking forward to the final two books in the series via Audible.

I need more, please and thank you!

I just finished the Death Before Dragons/Secrets of the Sword series, and was starting to fish around for a new urban fantasy that was just as good or close to it, but was not having much luck. Then I saw this book! I love the world Buroker has created and the narration/style of Leheny!

I seriously hope we get to see more of this world and hear about this characters interesting life♥️. I just got the next book (gonna try to listen slowly in an attempt to wait for -hopefully- book 3) and am excited to dive right it! The promised of a hammer-wielding bada$$, smirky-elven-assassin and who knows what kind of fantastical quest/adventure await!

Awesome combo

I like just about everything that the Buroker/Leheny combo writes & performs. This is definitely a continuation of the ‘Death before Dragons’ series. It could be read on its own, but there are so many references to previous adventures. Being familiar with those would probably make this series more enjoyable. We see all the old familiar characters, but from a different point of view, and we get to be introduced to some new ones. As in most of Ms. Buroker’s tales, there’s plenty of mystery, adventure, and blooming romance.
