Summary

The news that Cilla Black had died in August at the age of 72 triggered an outpouring of love and a wave of sadness that spread around the world. Her infectious personality and her common touch made her one of Britain's best loved entertainers.

Known to one generation for a string of number-one hits like 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' and 'You're My World', and loved by another for hosting the classic ITV show Blind Date, Cilla came a long way from hanging coats in Liverpool's Cavern Club for five bob an hour.

In Cilla: 1943-2015, Douglas Thompson traces her rise to the top, her heartwarming marriage to Bobby Willis and the profound effect his death had on her. This affectionate biography is a fitting tribute to our Cilla, a huge talent who became a national treasure.

Blind Date or Cilla's story?

Too much emphasis on Blind Date contestants rather than Cilla's story. a full chapter reading film reviews as well.

Mediocre

A sychophantic review of a public character interspaced with a detailed history of Blind Date and it's contestants. The narration jarred a lot with the frequent changing to regional accents. It was ok but could have been more balanced and read with a little less high-energy,

Nice listen

I love a good autobiography and this one didn't disappoint me at all. Cilla's story is amazing

Disappointed

I’ve been a fan of Cilla for as long as I remember. I was a small boy when she started in the charts. She’s only 8 years my senior.

I enjoyed the first half which was titled correctly. But the second half of the book should have been titled “the Blind Date Story @ as it was nothing more than a historical look at the show, not Cillas life story.

As general listening, yes it was ok, as a book about Cilla I wouldn’t recommend

badly written mostly a blind date history.

Writing is so bad it's almost funny constantly repeating itself at least two hours (it feels longer) are about blind date contestants nothing about Cilla. Reader is very annoying. check out sample before u buy! wish I had.
