While on holiday with her mother at a popular Mediterranean coastal resort, Megan fell in love. Just 14 years old, naïve, and vulnerable, she had no reason to suspect that the man who said he loved her would commit the ultimate betrayal of her trust.
When her mother returned to England, Megan stayed with Jak, who said he would find her a job as a waitress and promised they would be together forever. But when Megan travelled to the city with Jak, his attitude quickly changed, and instead of finding her work as a waitress, he allowed her to be raped and then sold her to a human trafficker.
Abandoned by Jak but still unable to accept that everything he'd told her had been a lie, Megan was coerced by threats and violence into working as a prostitute in private homes and brothels. Then the trafficker threatened her mother's life, and it was Megan's turn to lie: sending her mother the staged photographs that had been taken of her apparently working as a waitress in a cafe, she told her she was happy.
Too frightened and bewildered to trust or reach out to anyone, Megan remained locked in a world of brutality and abuse for six years. In the end there seemed to be only one way out.
Megan's powerful story reveals the devastating realities of human trafficking and the fear that imprisons its victims more effectively than any cage could ever do.

Heart-breaking but important readl
Another story that should be introduced thru the educational system to young persons...pre-teens...in conjunction with anti-bullying. Parents who do not have solid foundations themselves and who are not able to 'do parenting right' have to come to grips with the insecurities and desperation for acceptance they develop in their kids. I wish i knew Meghan was still moving forward and keeping a grip....my teen traumas so many years ago were nothing compared to hers and so, i know the challenges ahead....i hope deep in my heart she has the support and guidance and mentoring it will take. I send out a prayer of strength to her.

Amazing, really hard to listen to
Really gives you in-depth look into a day to day life of a human trafficking victim, really hard to listen at parts but that adds to the fear you feel for her.

good book but
good book but all that happened why not bring them to justice? as it could well still be going on, and I'm sure there could have been aniimnaty offered. not something that I understand. just my opinion anyway.

Shocking!x. Dii x
Hearing the truth about what people who are bought and sold n passed around like objects,trafficked,go through is horrendous.Especially upsetting was the part of how young one of the victims was n that even the police couldn't be trusted.It was a wonder how Megan didn't try to do her way out a lot earlier on whilst being on this unimaginable horrific part of her life.Well narrated n easily understood it's been one of the quickest books I've read/listened to.Definitely Captivated me from page one.It's sure to do the same to all listeners.
