Summary

Just a Girl is the shocking true story of Scarlett Jones, who was abused by her loved ones, groomed and trafficked by a gang, all the while fearing for her life.

I was a good girl who was just 'helping Daddy' in the hell that I called home.

Scarlett is just 8 years old when the horrific abuse at the hands of her father begins. It creates a world of shocking normality, one that she can only escape in her mind. Little Scarlett dreams of a time when she can be free... and then she meets Ed. Groomed and trafficked by her boyfriend, Scarlett realises she has been primed for abuse ever since she was a child. This is her harrowing story.

Just a girl

Another powerful account of abuse, it was obvious that the mother knew that the father was abusing his daughters but how alarm bells didn't ring in the school beggers belief. Thank goodness now police & schools are more in tune but I don't think so, some social workers are a disgrace & cascaf is a total waste of time & money which I've had first hand experience of, they can be easily led by lies. Thank goodness this evil father has been locked away & thank goodness finally you have gone through the tunnel & come out strong. Thank you for telling your story

Brave story

Although it was difficult to listen to much of this book, I and every man should hear about the contents regularly. We should be constantly reminded so that we can spot and call out this behaviour

Reality check

This was a great reality check. Its incomprehensible to truly comprehend the abuse she has endured. Reading chapter after chapter I was disturbed on how continuous her life of torture was and still is in some aspects. I've never believed in capital punishment but for these serial rapists clearly prison isn't enough of a deterrence. The disgusting manner in which these men conduct themselves is truly disgusting. I wish Scarlett nothing but the best. I don't have the fucking words to express what i'm truly feeling.

What a sad story

It is sickening to hear that a child could be subjected to such abuse by her own family. I am so glad that Scarlet has at last found her inner strength and I send her my love and best wishes for her future. May you see nothing but happiness in your future.

I lived in Wellington around this time, I could visualise it. It also sounds like a girl I once new. If you are well done for getting to where you are and I am sorry I never knew this was happing to you

I’m not a fan of abuse stories

This was well written not really an eye opener as Asians are well documented for the abuse of white girls however, it’s one of those books everyone should read as scarlet points out repeatedly what parents and teachers should be looking out for but ignore

Powerful

Not easy listening, the subject obviously is very distressing. I don't often write reviews but I feel compelled, given that the author bravely shared her story.
I will never be afraid to voice concerns......
