About this listen
After years of physical and mental abuse, Jade thought her kindly foster mother would be the answer to her prayers. She was wrong … this is her staggering true story.
‘This must be what prison is like,’ I thought as another hour crawled by. In fact, prison would be better … at least you knew your sentence. You could tick off the days until you got out. In the Bad Room we had no idea how long we’d serve.
After years of constant abuse, Jade thought her foster mother Linda Black would be the answer to her prayers. Loving and nurturing, she offered ten-year-old Jade a life free of fear.
But once the regular social-worker checks stopped, Linda turned and over the next six years Jade and three other girls were kept prisoner in a bedroom they called the ‘bad room’.
Shut away for 16 hours at a time, they were starved, violently beaten, forbidden from speaking or using the toilet and routinely humiliated. Jade was left feeling broken and suicidal.
This is the powerful true story of how one woman banished the ghosts of her past by taking dramatic action to protect the life of every vulnerable child in care.

liked it very much
I did really like this book and would definitely recommend it.
However though I would say that the narrator/reader wasn't amazing. I wouldn't say not to listen to it because of the way it was read, like some other people have said, but it could have been better. With some books I have listened to the reader will raise their voice when saying someone in the book was shouting or would speak in a lower voice when they were whispering in the book, or would change their tone of voice depending on the emotions on the person the were reading about such as sound up set when read a part where the person in the book was crying etc. thing narrator/reader didn't do this which did make the book less of a couldn't stop listening book.

I couldn't put this book down
I liked this book. You wouldn't think in this day and age this would happen to young people in the care system
Children have the right to be heard jade should have been removed from this Foster carers it's shocking she wasn't. I am glad she had the strength to write this book and hope if any young people in care read this they will have the same strength as jade had to speak out

What a read
Jade you are one of the bravest people out there to have the guts to tell your story the way it was so sad but so hopeful at the same time, The care system needs to be sorted big time so glad you made it through xx

Couldn't put it down!
Wow, this story kept me gripped from the beginning. The suffering this poor girl endured is shocking & the injustice she experienced from the social services is heartbreaking.
I abserloutly reccommend this book, but be ready for an emotional rollercoaster!
I enjoyed it so much I listened to it all in two sittings!

I've just finished reading the bad room and all i can say is what jade and the other girls went through was terrific I'm shocked that anyone could treat kids in such a way! I'm so glad jade got out and started a new life and knew what it was like to be a kid again! ❤

Emotional
I felt so frustrated listening to how the system failed all these children & how long they had to endure this torture and torment. Jade you should be so proud of yourself of how brave & strong you are. Thank you for telling your story
