Summary

One fateful summer evening, businessman Robin Timariot meets a strikingly beautiful woman while out walking. They exchange only a few words, but those words prove to be unforgettable. A few days later, the newspapers are full of the rape and murder of Lady Louise Paxton - and to his horror, Timariot realises that this was the woman he met just hours before her death.

A man is swiftly charged and convicted of the crime, but a series of bizarre events begin to convince Timariot that all is not what it seems. Against his better judgment, he is soon sucked into the tortuous complexity of the dead woman's life. But the closer Timariot gets to the truth, the more hideous and uncertain it seems to be. And far too late, he realises that anybody who uncovers it is unlikely to live....

Classic Goddard

Great story with lots of twists and turns. Good plot which held together altho i lost track of some minor characters. Telfer reads Goddard's books really well with all the right accents and expression. Thankyou.

Well worth the listening time.

Rich, complex and deep. A novel that makes one constantly reassess our original take on what will happen next. Very enjoyable, as a story as well as the narration.
If this is the worst collaboration between Messrs. Goddard and Telfer, then I shall anticipate future books with baited breath.

Quite a good book. Very twisty and turny!

I enjoyed this, and found the twists and turns quite engaging and exciting, making me want to listen to more to see what was going to happen next.
I'm not keen on books that flip from now to the past and back and forth. I like things in chronological order.
Not bad at all, though, and worth a listen, even though it's a bit far-fetched and silly in places.

Not his best

The malability of the hero, swayed this way and that by the other characters eventually got to me.
I just wanted to tell him to grow up and be responsible for his own decisions.

very satisfying tale

as usual, Robert Goddard has a well thought out plot with some interesting twists although I did manage to partly solve the mystery before the end. Nevertheless this is a really good listen .

Great mystery

I really enjoyed this and thought it was well thought out with the narrative unfolding at a good pace. The ending might have been somewhat predictable but there were still some twists and it was well plotted and performed.

More twists than a twister

Just when I thought it had resolved another twist to the plot came along. Not at all predictable, well narrated ( which improved with a slight increase in speed). All in all a very satisfying listen as it always is with Robert Goddard novels.

Loved it

Loved the twists and turns. Can’t wait to read another Robert Goddard, what a convoluted mind he must have.

Crazy

This is a story about a man's very brief encounter with a woman who is murdered shortly afterward. Bascically he never knew her but gets ridiculously and unnecessarily involved with solving who did it and why.
If he hadn't there would not have been a book I suppose, I wish he hadn't because it rambled on and on, with the family members police etc telling him to stop and leave it alone.
I persevered to the end but it was a struggle as I got to the pont where I couldn't have cared less.
The narrator was the only thing that I can recommend.
