About this listen

From the contemporary ruins of the American South to the ancient ruins of Rome, and from the unutterable horrors of the Holocaust to the lingering trauma of Vietnam, Beach Music sings with life's pain and glory. Jack McCall, an American expatriate in Rome with his young daughter, is trying to find some peace after his wife's suicide. But his solitude is disturbed by the appearance of his sister-in-law, who begs him to return home. And once there, he finds himself drawn into a painful, intimate search for the one haunting secret in his family's past that can heal his anguished heart.©1995 Pat Conroy (P)1995 Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio Publishing, a Division of Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group, Inc. Truly beautiful

Overall this was beautiful, heartbreaking and incredibly funny story. I can’t recommend enough. There is music between chapters which at times can drown out the words but that doesn’t take away from this being a must read. Truly beautiful.

Beautiful!

I have just finished reading this book for the second time… first read was in the 90’s while on holiday and i had been searching for this booj ever since. Second read even better than the first! Unforgettable characters, and a beautiful portrait of S. Carolina as well as Italy. Conroy has the ability to flesh out characters that feel as real to me as if i had known them. Not a fan of the music that at times overtakes audio - the book would read better without it. But that aside, the reader is wonderful and shows a real grasp of all the characters he portrays. First rate!!!

Not as good as the real book

Huge parts of the original book are missing, which is a shame as the story in the book is beautiful, full of history, and gives much more information on the characters.

A shame and a sham.

I cannot believe Conroy gave permission for this very limited way of portraying one of his best books.

The music is highly irritating and ill chosen.
Not worth my credit.
