Listened for the third time. Still wonderful, performed with generosity and love. The presentations of Betsy Trotwood (Scott), the Micawbers (Brummy) and Miss Mowcher (Scouser) are choices of particular genius.

I never tired of listening to RA who had such a wide range of voices. This was fortunate as there are times during this marathon novel that my attention waned with some of the sub plots. But when the plot turned to the main protagonists- e.g. Uriah Heep, Stearforth, the loquacious Wilkins Micawber and the malevolent Murdston's - I was gripped.

I loved how Richard Armitage brought this book to life. Couldn’t wish for a better performance. Absolutely loved this and would recommend to anyone who has never read anything by Dickens as a perfect starting point.

I cannot believe I have gone through half a century of life without having discovered this book. What a wonderful story, so beautifully descriptive of every character and scene and excellently read to boot. This certainly made my daily walk much more enjoyable too.

I got this on the recommendation of a friend. Normally it is not the type of story I would listen to, it was totally captivating. The narrator is incredible and I love the accents and dramatisation of each character. Quite an amazing story that continued to draw me in and entertain me with villains, heroes and very colourful characters. I’m now a big fan of Charles Dickens.

I have wanted to listen to another Dickens for some time and having listened to 'The Jane Austen Society' read by Richard Armitage, I chose David Copperfield. This book is wonderful, Richard's voices are superb especially Mr Micawber. Its long and will take a while to get through, but it is worth it!

Brilliant narration , all of the characterisation was superb . I loved Mr Micawber's denunciation of Heap especially. Would recommend this to all. Richard Armitage was excellent, how he produced all of the voices throughout , I can't imagine. It bought a much loved classic to life .

Richard Armitage is superb, the characters that he creates with his voice are simply brilliant, he brings them alive in such a subtle way, sometimes comical and his Uriah Heep sends a shiver down my spine.

Once again Richard Armitage excels in his narration! The way that he captures each character with a unique accent is brilliant - particularly liked his fiesty Scottish Betsey Trotwood but they are all portrayed in an interesting and immediately identifiable way.

The story was new to me but I very much enjoyed following the significant events of David Copperfield's life, sharing his sadness and joy. I cried at the death of his mother, cheered at Betsey Trotwood's defiance of the Murdstones. It is an engaging story all the way through, such that 36 hours and 30 minutes doesn't feel too long. Dickens is a sensitive writer of his time and is sympathetic to the underclasses of that age. It was interesting to understand from a historical perspective more about life in the early Victorian era, and how people reacted to situations, such as relationships outside of marriage.

If, like me, you are not familiar with classic literature/Dickens then I recommend listening to this on x0.75 speed so you can more easily follow the story. It does make it a bit slow in places, but on normal speed I found it difficult to keep up.
