About this listen
William Dorrit has been a resident of the Marshalsea debtors prison for so many years that he has gained the nickname "The Father of the Marshalsea". However, his suffering is eased by his close bond with youngest daughter Amy, or "Little Dorrit".
The dashing Arthur Clennam, returning to London after many years in China, enters their lives, and the Dorrits' fortunes begin to rise and fall.
A biting satirical work on the shortcomings of 19th century government and society.

I've listened to a number of books read by Anton Lesser and am always amazed at his characerisations. Each has their own distinctive voice, bringing Dickens' rich characters to life brilliantly. I laughed everytime chatterbox Flora was speaking. I enjoyed this book and narration immensely.
Fantastic story and reader

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes definitelyWho was your favorite character and why?
Pancks. He had the courage to do the right thing and expose Casby for what he really was. Plus, he uncovered the Dorrit fortune...mind you that had it's draw backs!Which scene did you most enjoy?
The death and exposing of Mr. Merdle and his "Ponzy Scheme" way before Charles Ponzi was even born! I thought this was quite uncanny as we have just experienced something so similar in recent yearsWas there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Little Dorrit seemed to lose the Father to his fortune and how she longed for the happier days in the MashalseaAny additional comments?
Great narration from Anton Lesser! Not my favourite Dickens novel, but a great story none the less.A good story with one particularly uncanny twist!

The book is also excellent; great descriptions of things and places and depiction of characters still all too recognisable these days; passages by turns hilarious and touching.
Great.

A Beautiful Story With Some Wonderful Characters.

Most stories have some one thing that divides the cast: good/bad, generous/greedy, humble/proud, etc. In Little Dorrit, the division seems to be between the self-centred and the self-sacrificing; those who do good to get credit in their moral ledgers, and those who do good because it is the right thing to do. And neither side can really understand the other, though Dickens gives us a good chance to try and see both points of view.
A powerful story, excellently read.

Rigaud to me is the greatest achievement in this story, and his cat & mouse game with Mrs Clenham at the end is sublime writing, and immensely suspenseful.
I personally found the saccharine sentimentality of the chief protagonist a little too hard to swallow at times, but that aside there are some terrific characters in this novel, Pancks, Merdle, & Flintwinch in particular.
Not my favourite personally, but still definitely worth reading/listening to, and Anton Lesser masters the voice characterisations brilliantly.
