Summary

The last thing Smokey should let himself want is this man, but he can’t seem to stay away....

Every time Smokey stares at the President patch on his cut, he feels like an imposter. After all, that was not the life he was supposed to lead. In his former club, he did what they asked, when they asked, and that was enough for him. But 30 years later and the fate of the Broken Chains resting on his shoulders, all eyes were on him.

Smokey had enough to deal with after the VP of Satan’s Souls got carted off to prison on his watch, but now there’s a dead man in an alley with a cut bearing the name of The Cobras. And Smokey knows they’re not prepared to handle the consequences if the Cobras’ President thinks they’re responsible.

However, the dead man isn’t the worst part: The only witness is a civilian.

Eliah Burns was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it seems like fate really has it in for Smokey, because Eliah is also the one man he’s been avoiding. Eliah has been in Smokey’s periphery for years, his little brother’s favorite professor - and he’s also the one-night stand Smokey hasn’t been able to forget.

Now Eliah’s in Smokey’s home, hiding from the men who want him dead, and Smokey’s trying to keep his heart from tripping and falling for a man he shouldn’t want, while learning who is trying to set his club up to start a full on war.

Broken Chains MC is a Motorcycle Club Romance series with dubious morality, mild violence, and happily ever afters.

Leaving the bad MC wasn’t enough…

Smokey and his little brother Rory have escaped their father’s hellish MC. Smokey was done with bikers after all he had to do for his father. Now years later, he is the President of his own MC. He keeps Rory out of everything and in the University but one of his professors becomes a witness to a crime that will put them all in danger. Eliah has a thing for Smokey, which becomes more as they hide from the enemy. Good start of a series and good narration.

Backfire

Good listen. I've been listening to a good bit of lighter books of late and wanted something just a bit darker. This did the trick. Like the story and rooted for the characters. The narration was well done. Overall enjoyed it.

Hot romance and suspense

I knew I was going to love this one as soon as I found it involved Smokey having to act as a protector to a professor who witnessed something he shouldn't have. Add in the fact that these two had known each other through Smokey's little brother and a one night stand they shared and I was hooked. The writing and narration more than lived up to my expectations. Smokey is suffering from a bad case of impostor syndrome and Eliah has his own demons to deal with. Forcing them to together makes them face reality about themselves and their pasts and shows them how strong they are both individually and together. The plot involving the murder provided great suspense. Logan Anare gives a wonderful performance here. It is matter of fact when it needs to be to set a scene or describe things and then provides all the emotions when the characters are interacting. Nothing over the top, the tone and characterizations are perfect all the way through.

Great narration and really engaging series

I love E M Lindsey's books, I always look forward to them and this did not disappoint. Their handling and inclusion of differently abled characters is always a joy and Lindsey is the type of author you feel you learn from. There's grit and action, and this is a well paced Motorcycle Club story.
I was nervous about the narrator - especially how they were going to handle Eliah's accent - but it was surprisingly great. I will definitely search him out again!
Overall Smokey and Eliah are really engaging heroes and at times an oddly endearing couple. Well worth a read but for maximum enjoyment I would start with Book 1 in the series.
Thoroughly recommend this audiobook.

Fantastic

Love stories by EM Lindsey, always a great time listening. Smokey and Eliah are fantastic characters to get to know. Logan Anare did a super job with the narration. A bit more action than some of the other series by EM Lindsey but just as good.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Audio kicks it up a notch!

I think Lindsey is one of the absolute best writers around, their writing style just completely works for me. And while I’m not really one for MC romances, I’m totally digging this one. There’s a good amount of action, the morally gray characters are intriguing and not complete alphaholes, and the love interests are unexpected and lovely. As always, Lindsey writes so many different differently-abled characters in such amazing and respectful ways. In my review for the ebook I talked about how I wasn’t sure I felt the chemistry between the main characters, but Logan Anare was able to blow that thought away by breathing life into these characters and making the chemistry something more tangible. Will I continue the series? Most definitely. I’m looking forward to so many of these characters stories and can’t wait to see where it goes next.

From two different worlds

This is an intense story about two guys that are totally set in their own worlds. Eliah is a professor while Smokey is the leader of the Broken Chain MC. Smokey feels inferior to Eliah and Eliah has his own issues having been in an accident that leaves him with some physical disabilities but he refuses to be defined by them. These two get thrown together as Eliah needs protection and Smokey is willing to watch out for him. I think the narration by Logan Anare added reality to the story. I feel this is more of a hfn rather than finished story. I am following this series so I am anxious to see what part these two play in the next story.

thrilling and dark

very gritty motorcycle club romance. I did feel a little lost at the start because I haven't read book 1, so I'd say read in order if you can. this is a dark, dubious and gripping story with dynamic and rough characters all with a heavy past that in many ways dictates their present and future. I enjoyed the back and forth between Eliah and Smokey/Aaron and their honesty about their reality was refreshing and not something I come across often. the overarching story was not concluded though so I have questions and really need to know what will happen next. it sounds like this might be concluded in Kick's and Jude's story, up next!

Raw and gritty

Eliah and Smokey are worlds apart but the author ade them work.
Smokey can't just stand by while Eliah is in trouble.
They both have pasts that have left them leery and afraid so they have a lot issues to work through both individually and as a couple.
Plenty of action and steamy moments.
This was a new to me author and I enjoyed his narration.

Entertaining!

Okay, so I'm late to the party, so to speak, and haven't listened to book 1 (which I hope to remedy soon), and while it shouldn't be read as a standalone, I wasn't too lost.

There's a continuing arc that started in book 1 and will continue in the next installment(s), so be advised that there'll be some issues that won't be resolved in this book. There's violence and mentions of past events that might be triggering, so proceed with care.

I really liked Eliah and how resilient he was. And I liked Smokey/Aaron, too, even if there were some times where I wanted to slap some sense into him. They were great together, despite being an unlikely pair, so I hope we get to see more of them in the next books in the series.

Backfire was entertaining, fast-paced, and engaging and even if the romance took a backseat to everything else happening, I was still invested in Eliah and Aaron getting their HEA.

Logan Anare is a new-to-me narrator and I really liked his style and the way he brought the story to life. My favorite was Smokey, although his Eliah wasn't that far behind.

Recommendable!
