Summary

A classic Catherine Anderson romance filled with hope.

Annie Trimble lives in her own world. Shunned by the town for being a simpleton, Annie is kept close to home by her parents. She enjoys her freedom roaming the woods and befriending wild creatures. Frequently taunted by children and adults, Annie's world is shattered when one man takes the torment too far.

Shocked by his brother's cruelty toward the girl, Alex Montgomery will do whatever it takes to make amends - even when it means marrying Annie. Soon Alex is charmed by her childlike innocence and begins to realize that the beautiful young woman is not as slow-witted as everyone believes.

As Alex falls deeper in love, he becomes more determined to break through Annie's wall of silence.

Love this story

I love this book by Catherine Anderson.

I had a very hard time finishing it, because of the way the reader read it. Her inflections were all wrong, and it really bugged me all the way through the whole book.

I have a paperback copy of this book, Have read it many times, I will always love this story. However, I will never listen to this reader again.

Not one of my personal favorites but still a good story.

I least liked Annie’s thought processes but I guess it did show that she had them. It was a kind of Helen Keller story and it turned out well in the end.

Grips your heart...

I am so fond of this book. I first read this book when I started reading romance novels about 15 years ago. What makes this book so beautiful is how Alex ends up falling in love with Annie. He does its right by loving everything about her with what's on the inside and not because of looks. I love the sweet innocence of Annie and the tenderness of Alex.

On another note, whereas I don't think the narrator they have reading it is bad, I just think they could have gotten someone a little better that didn't sound a little dull.

Besides that, this audio is well worth a listening to.

Cheesier than others

I’m a fan of Catherine Anderson and have read many of her books, but she strayed from her rugged outdoorsy characters and went to a period in the 1800’s with the characters being aristocrats with maids and butlers. I just thought it was a bit too cheesy for my taste.

Sweet

This now one of my top loved books. Loved the story and characters. It reminds me of one of my favorite movie Johnny Balinda, with an even better ending.

Thought provoking storyline, really good!

Great story, really makes you think about how the world perceives people that don’t fit the norm.

Serious trigger warning

Please beware…I didn’t realize I would be listening to a rape (of a physically impaired person no less), child abuse, & seriously offensive language. If you have ever experienced any kind of abuse/assault DO NOT get this book. I tried to get through it but I just can’t. I hope I can get my credit back. I’m shocked at the high rating & good reviews. That alone has seriously disturbed me. I would have appreciated some kind of warning so I’ll do my part by giving one to other readers.

Not your every day love story, BETTER!

This story is about honor brought on by the horrors of a selfish devil of a sibling. The love that grows with the discovery that there is so much more to a person than town gossip.

CRINGE!!!

This one gave me all of the feels. All of them weird. And, to be honest, this was a struggle for me to get through.

Annie is throughout her life thought to be developmentally delayed. But through a traumatic event, she is found to deaf.

This story would have been fine for me. But, for some reason, she is treated and spoken to as if a child. Even when in sexual situations, and that's not IT for me.

Annie’s Song

Wonderful story. A little long but that’s ok. Some of the scenes could have been shorter. The sex scenes were a bit repetitious. Narrator not great.
