Summary

Twelve years ago Matthew "the Rocket" Rising had it all. Married to his high school sweetheart and one of the winningest quarterbacks in the history of college football, he was the number one NFL draft pick. But on the night of the draft, he plummeted from the pinnacle of esteem. Falsely accused of a heinous crime with irrefutable evidence, it seemed in an instant all was lost—his reputation, his career, his freedom, and most devastatingly, the love of his life.

Having served his sentence and never played a down of professional football, Matthew leaves prison with one goal—to find his wife, Audrey, whom no one has seen since the trial. He returns to an unwelcoming reception from his Gardi, Georgia, hometown to learn that Audrey has taken shelter from the media with the nuns at a Catholic school. There she has discovered a young man with the talent to achieve the football career Matthew should have had. All he needs is the right coach. Although helping the boy means Matthew violates the conditions of his release and—if discovered—reincarceration for life, he'll take the chance with hope of winning back Audrey's love.

Critic reviews

"A beautiful story of love, redemption, and football. A winning combination."—Library Journal

"Could easily be ripped from today's headlines. A moving story of lost dreams, unending love, truth seeking and in the end, inspiring redemption. This one is not to be missed!"—Michael Morris, author of Man in the Blue Moon and A Place Called Wiregrass

Beautiful!!

Charles Martin is incredible. His stories are beautifully written and the detail and description he uses is unsurpassed. I wait for his books to come out. I'm still wondering why he hasn't had movies made of all of his books thus far. I know there have been talk, a good possibility again now, but why so long! He is hands down my favorite author and I appreciate his clean, honest, and uplifting moral and values he places in all of his books. We need more Charles Martins out there...thank you for your words and heart.

Charled Martin does it again!

Where does A Life Intercepted rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I always enjoy books by Charles Martin, but this is the first one I have listened to. I enjoyed it very much and would rank it toward the top. That means that it was moving, had good character development, and kept me up late at night!

What other book might you compare A Life Intercepted to and why?

His last novel before A Life Intercepted was Unwritten. It was excellent, too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end is amazing!

Any additional comments?

For those looking for good reads without graphic sex and bad language, Charles Martin is a great choice. He has "bad guys" and action, but he does not fill his books with cheap talk.

Did Not Like It.

The narrator was really good but the story was too depressing and the constant football theme was BORING. When I got @ 4 hour from the end I had to quit. The analogy with the poor abused dog was too much for me.

Unexpectedly Inspiring

Given that the story starts in prison, I had no idea where the characters would go. I enjoyed the turns of the plot. Martin's characters are lovingly cast, but very human. His books are 'faith-based' but are more about the transcendence of the human spirit and perseverance in the face of adversity.

You just can't go wrong with Charles Martin.

I have a variety of books and Authors that I love to listen to over and over again. Charles Martin is one at the top of the list. All his books are base on a beautiful philosophy. Sometimes, bad things happen to good people, but you don't have to be brought down because of it. All of his main characters see the beauty of rising above and living to higher level. You gotta love a guy who gets knocked down but gets back up so gracefully that he brings everyone else up with him. I have to admit, I'll like this book a lot more the second time now that I know it has a great ending.

1 of His Best!

This was wonderful! I'm not even a football fan and I plan to listen to it again. I'm hoping my husband will give it a shot, as well. I now have 4 favorite Charles Martin books: Long Way Gone, When Crickets Cry, Wrapped in Rain, and A Life Intercepted. Thank you Charles Martin for sharing your God given talent.

Well Written and Performed

If someone likes football, I imagine they will glean alot from this book. Unfortunately I don't like football. There was more to the story so it kept me listening.
