From New York Times best-selling author Charles Martin comes a radical retelling of the prodigal son story. Cooper O'Connor thought he could make it big as a musician, but he promptly lost it all. Can he repair his relationship with the father who never stopped calling him home? At the age of 18, musician and songwriter Cooper O’Connor took everything his father held dear and drove 1,200 miles from home to Nashville, his life riding on a six-string guitar and the bold wager that he had talent. But his wager soon proved foolish.

He has shown us how to have the right perspective concerning this life and the one to come. And what God starts, he finishes.

Story
Everyone, Christians included, knows what it’s like to feel isolated and alone. We’ve all wondered if anyone really understands us or truly cares about our lives. The good news is that we aren’t alone, and the gospel tells us why: Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to be forever united with his people - to be one of us. In fact, he has so united himself with us that the Bible says we are literally “in” him. Far from being alone and lost, the Incarnation changes everything for the Christian.

In the midst of suffering, we often question the very foundation of our faith - our belief in the God who says he loves us.

Common people. Maybe you heard their names in a childhood Sunday school class. They're not often the champions or the go-to sermon illustrations. They probably didn't stand at the foot of the cross or even hang next to Jesus on one of their own. But they pepper the pages of the Bible, reminding us that we're not alone. Just like you and me, these ordinary people stumbled and struggled. They faced their own sin and came face-to-face with a God who not only wipes it away, but also makes the common extraordinary.

What happens when Jesus returns if you have or haven't accepted Christ? What exactly comes next? Participation in God's life! Some value the thought as the very goal of the gospel. It's like unbiblical mysticism was mistrusted by others. What is true? What is true? Here we will present a biblical case for maximum intimacy with God: divine participation. We shall discuss the precious faith of unity with God, which gives us such participation; we shall stress the role of Christ as Mediator, promising and establishing this relationship; we should understand how this friendship is shared in the Church corporeally, but also briefly, as we will "be face to face" only in the end.

Your God is too small. We like God small. We prefer a God who is safe, domesticated, who thinks like we think, likes what we like, and whom we can manage, predict, and control. A small God is convenient. Practical. Manageable. The truth: God is big. Bigger than big. Bigger than all the words we use to say big. Ironically, many today seem turned off by the concept of an awesome, terrifyingly great God. We assume that a God you would need to fear is guilty of some kind of fault. For us, thinking of God as so infinitely greater and wiser than we are and who would cause us to tremble in his presence is a leftover relic.

Summary
With the same depth, sensitivity, and emotion that has made his novels beloved to millions, Charles Martin helps us engage the fundamental principles of our faith in new and inspiring ways.
Years ago, Martin cracked open his Bible and began wrestling with a few fundamental questions. He asked, “What if every single word of Scripture is absolutely true and I can trust it? How do I respond? Something in me should change, but what? How?” This audiobook is the result of that exploration.
Writing as our guide, he uses a storyteller’s imagination to illuminate key moments from the Scriptures, primarily from the life and ministry of Jesus. In addition, Martin shares key moments from his own journey as a disciple - and bond-servant - of Christ and a mentor to others. The result is a striking exploration of truth that helps us not just think differently but live differently. Today.
Includes a song written by Charles Martin’s son, only available in the audiobook edition. Appendices that include topical verses from Scripture are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

A book I’m going to listen to again with a journal this time!
I’ve already recommended this book to several people. It’s rich in the craft of bringing fact to life in a way that meant I felt I was there right in the lives of the people being described from the Bible. Several times a string of words took my breath away as they impacted my spirit deeply. This is not a book to be rushed, it is a book to be digested as you consider each chapter. Have a notebook or a journal and pen with you and listen undisturbed. See what God does in your heart.

Moved to tears
I am an LDS woman and thought it would not be within what I could not accept. But Charles's way or telling the stories about the Savior are so tender and real. He has a way of saying what is in the scriptures and bringing a reality I have not experienced before. I listed to "We are all Bleeders " several times . I am so grateful for your extreme wisdom in knowing the scriptures.

A lot to take in all at once
Beautiful prayers, will have to listen to the audiobook again to grasp even half of Charles ‘writing! Much to take in and absorb and is life changing if I allow these words of truth from the Bible to enter my very being. Praying that the Holy Spirit will enable me to become all that I’m chosen to become. This book is not for someone who is a “surface-Sunday Christian “, this is for the serious, die hard follower of Christ that is willing to suffer for Him at any cost.

Charles Martin on the Life of Christ
(3.5 stars)
This is a different book from Charles Martin, a non-fiction book in which he turns his story-writing eye on the life of Jesus. A few takeaways:
1. My favorite chapter is "No Gone is Too Gone," a theme that he takes up in one his novels (Long Way Gone), which is in my top three of his books along with "Making Crickets Cry" and "A Life Intercepted." No Gone is Too Gone is a meditation on the story of the prodigal son and it is excellent.
2. My second favorite chapter is his extended meditation on the love of Christ and how we are called to love in the same way and how impossible that is apart from the working of the Holy Spirit within us.
3. His son, John T., wrote a song that encapsulates the book's theme and they recorded it and included the song in the audible version of this book. It's a very good song and kind of cool that his son was able to do this.
4. Charles Martin reads this book and I'm glad he did, it really "makes" the book for me.
