Summary
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her beloved Flesh and Fire series…
The only thing that can save the realms now is the one thing more powerful than the Fates.
After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals.
Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though–not even with a lifetime of training. While his most favored Revenant is insistent that she is nothing more than a lie, Kolis’s erratic nature and twisted sense of honor leave her shaken to the core, and nothing could’ve prepared her for the cruelty of his Court or the shocking truths revealed. The revelations not only upend what she has understood about her duty and the very creation of the realms but also draw into question exactly what the true threat is. However, surviving Kolis is only one part of the battle. The Ascension is upon her, and Sera is out of time.
But Nyktos will do anything to keep Sera alive and give her the life she deserves. He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Yet despite his desperate determination, their destinies may be out of their hands.
But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…

A bit too much internal dialogue …
There was some good character development , but I was disappointed with how much of the story was Sera talking/thinking to herself .
The story at large didn’t evolve much compared to previous books , and I’m left wishing more had actually happened .
There were some useful context holes filled and interesting new characters … but I really hope for more action in future books!

Damn
I laughed. I cried. My heart was racing needing to know what happens but DESPERATELY not wanting this book to end. For my own sanity, I should have paced myself cause I know the wait for the next instalment is going to be pure torture.

Way too much of talk and repetitiveness
A nice continuation of the story of Sara and Ash but a lot of the story is repetition and a also a lot of focus on the Love matter between them. Would have preferred more action and development in the story.

I wanted to love it like the others but didn’t quite…
The first half of the book is very drawn out & practically has no Nyktos! The second half is really good & kind of makes up for it. It finishes very sweetly im very much looking forward to the next / last book in the series concluding but also sad it will be over!

Way too long
If you cut about 3rd of the book it would be great. Too repetitive and disappointing ending. Anti climax at the end after all these hours.

Repetitive and internal dialog nightmare
if you love JLA then it's worth the listen but honestly had to fight my way through this one compared to the rest.. it's a shame..
Sera's constant inner dialog was repetitive and annoying I the end...
there was not really any story development and what little there were wasnt up to par with the rest of what JLA has written.
I feel a little like this book was written as a "filler" and only because it brings in money. I hate saying that but it's the feeling I get from it.
Like it didn't get the "Love" and work as some of her other stuff have.
Upside: Narrator is still amazing!! and makes it worth it a little bit!

Charachter building and a vast world
Overall, these books are amazing. But, I've had a hard time finding it realistic for a charachter in need of safety, to be stupidly bold, or just stupid, so, at times, the story doesn't make sense to me. I have however been in a violent relationship and can perhaps easier predict how a person normally stiffens and wisens up, when in risk of being abused or killed, in stead of running their mouth and saying perhaps the the most revealing things ever ( I mean, come on! You know better than to bring up your beloved husbands freedom as the very first thing ever, when you are in the presence of a very unpredictable and jealous monster hellbent on killing him and you both, first thing, as soon as things go your way, and you definitely keep your temper in check with him, at the very least!) So for me to read this, was very, very ..VERY frustrating at times. But, I get that maybe the frustrating part, is part of what keeps you committed from time to time. The sometimes overly long innwords dialogues, where you are told the same thing in six different ways, is also somewhat excessive. But it is the story as a whole, the building of this world, and the character developement, that is just absolutely delightful! I love it! It's charachters you fall in love with and come to see as friends, romance, magic, history and lore, and it simply takes a genius to create it. I've enjoyed this book as muh as the others in the series, and I look very much forward to the rest of them. Way to go Armentrout!
