I've read all the books in this series and have come to know and love the characters, to the extent that, in many ways, plot is secondary to character development. However, this novel has a tight and twisty plot that's like a boy racer in a stolen car doing handbrake turns on a narrow cliffside road - exciting but not very sensible. The central relationship between Max Wolfe and his daughter is very well written and forms a humane backdrop to all the cartoon violence and death. I also like the descriptions of London as well as the modest exploration of the moral dilemmas faced by the police as they navigate the increasingly thin blue line. Okay, it's not Tolstoy but I like it.

Another brilliant read by Tony Parsons. I have now listened to many of Max Wolfe episodes narrated by Colin Mace and thoroughly enjoyed them.Look forward to the next one.

Superb narration from Colin Mace, he really brings the character of Max Wolfe to life.

Brilliant storyline, well paced, great characters and their interaction is impeccable.

Just hoping there will be another in this wonderful series.

Absolutely loved this book . Brilliant story and excellent characters. Luckily we had a few long car journeys so we could spend good quality time getting into the story . Long awaited and definitely the best yet . Good to catch up with old friends DCI Max Wolfe and his daughter scout not forgetting their pet dog.
Looking forwards to the next instalment.

Love this and enjoyed it right until the end. Story not my favourite out of the series but good nonetheless! Performance was amazing as usual, a couple of accents changed since the last one but still believable!

Love all the Max Wolfe books - adore his relationships with his daughter and his dog and his selflessness in trying to grow some kind of relationship between Scout and her selfish, self-serving arrogant mother. What Wolfe ever saw in her (other than her physical beauty) can only be guessed at - s'pose she must be good between the sheets.... ;)
This particular tale had me guessing all the way through - again! That just doesn't happen! I thought I had the answer but it was only a fraction of the whole thing - that's what I love about Tony Parsons - it's always more complicated than you, at first, think. No spoilers - just buy this and listen!

Love the character and daughter relationship. Also the descriptions of London. Colin Mace is great really enjoy his performance he makes Max very believable can’t wait till next book
