About this listen

A Sunday Times bestseller, Where's My Happy Ending? asks the questions you've always wondered: What is ‘happily ever after’? How do you make love last? Is there such a thing as ‘the one’?

Maybe you’ve just had a first date with ‘the one’, maybe you’ve been married for ten years. Either way, it’s hard to know if they’re really meant to be by your side until you both wear dentures. In this book Anna Whitehouse and Matt Farquharson, co-founders of the Mother Pukka website and authors of the Sunday Times bestseller Parenting the S--t Out of Life, set out to discover what it takes to make it to forever, by asking our greatest questions about love.

They ask a former sex-worker and her ex-gigolo husband, celibate monks and free-loving hippies. They ask people who never wanted kids and people who have loads of them. They speak to couples, throuples and singles; gay, straight and anywhere in-between.

And in asking these questions, they are forced to confront their own relationship after a decade of marriage. Join Anna and Matt on a searingly honest, belly-laugh inducing journey through love and relationships, social media and small children, expert advice and everyday exasperation, as they navigate the muddy waters of modern romance.

Critic reviews

As a divorced single mother, thank God there is none of that smug, married-couple twattery in this book. I loved it. (Jane Garvey, BBC presenter)
The honesty, wit and wisdom in this book makes it a joy to read. There’s a genuine drive to get to the bottom of our often questionable romantic philosophy. It’s painful and funny – and painfully funny. (Emma Freud)
They both write and engage with the reader so playfully and willingly. There’s such intimacy and lightness at the same time that there’s intensity and great substance. This is a delightful book that takes us into the depths of the modern human condition. An essential psychological exploration. (Charlotte Fox Weber, Head of Psychotherapy at The School of Life)
Funny, emotional, brilliant. (Katie Piper)
This book made us laugh, cry and remember where it all started for us. In a garage. With the smell of petrol in the air. Memories! (Chris and Rosie Ramsey, Founders of Shagged, Married, Annoyed.)
A glorious mix of writing that’s both painfully honest and painfully funny. (Ellie Taylor)
Fantastically unsmug (Woman’s Hour)

It's helping me, understand us. I feel like I need a summary at the end but there was lots I related too. Really likeable folks.

I feel armed, informed and heartened having listened to Anna & Matt’s honest and clever take on love and happiness.
It was a bit of a slog for me personally to get through the Tinder & porn sections but possibly useful to others living in a more modern society (not half way up a foreign mountain!) But well rewarded by the ending! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Ammunition for life!

Anna and Matt you wrote & read this beautifully. Obvs.
Followed you since the high chair videos days and loved your first book. But “Where’s My Happy Ending?” was summink else.
I’ve been with my husband since we were 16 (2001) and got married in 2007. I sobbed listening to your book in the car on the school run (post drop off, not while the kids were in the car!) and also laughed hysterically at the normal bits of a relationship.
The people you interviewed were ace and it was interesting to hear some varied views on life and love. I love Anna’s mum and dad and the whelk man (who knew it’d make me want to visit Whitstable?) and the lollipop lady.
And my take away from your book is to ask ourselves that question - when I’m infuriated by the shitpile on the stairs or the gathering of pint glasses on the bedside table- “what does love need?”
I also loved the Audiobook Extra. What a nice treat at the end of a cracking book.
Cheers you lovely human beans.

Absolutely love listening to Anna and Matt and their honest account and findings on love, life marriage, kids and chaos. We indeed spend our lives with an inherent belief in Happy every after, it is comforting to know not many people live in a fairy tale. And my take/mistakes/general inept attempt at life isn’t all that dissimilar to many others. Well worth a listen/read.

Engaging listen with a brutal yet comforting insight into others happy ending.

I devoured this book across 3 days. I couldn’t stop listening and have recommended my partner listen to it too. It’s the best audio book I’ve listened to yet. Honest, funny, sad - it had me crying happy and sad tears. Everytime my partner is a bit of an arse now I ask myself ‘what does love need’. My phone usage is also down 25% - less pointless Instagram scrolling, my phone goes on the bookshelf at 7pm! I’m sure this book will strengthen our relationship. Can’t wait for the next one

My favourite audio book yet

An unobvious modern love story, despite all of the challenges life throws at us, there is a strong feeling of undeniable love. Maybe not throw you up the wall, kiss until your lips hurt love but, it is definitely love. A must read/listen.
