Summary
Set under the brooding skies of North Norfolk. Meet Sara Hirst as she searches for her lost father and finds that great beauty sometimes conceals great violence.
Detective Sara Hirst has moved from London to Norfolk Police's Serious Crimes Unit. She wants to know the truth about her father, who has connections to the area. Her mother won't tell her the real story.
A new job. A new place. Same old problems.
Sara's first call-out is to a decomposing body discovered in a ditch on a local farm. How does the murder relate to a recent spate of thefts? Who wanted the victim dead?

An interesting story against the backdrop of people trafficking
The narration is often good, BUT accents bear everywhere. Norfolk farmers who lapse in turn into American or even Scottish accents being one example. A sloppy waste.

A good listen
The story was somewhat predictable but nevertheless enjoyable it did make me gasp sometimes especially with the woman. Coming from Norfolk unfortunately the underlying racism is all too true. The reader hasn’t got some of the Norfolk dialect quite right ( some especially Agnes sounded more American) but at least it wasn’t the West Country accent which often happens.

Definitely worth a listen
I really liked this novel , good plot. narration was good but some of the accents sounded like the characters were from South Africa and New Zealand , maybe that's just me?

Brilliant Detective Fiction
it is a brilliant story - well written, well plotted and gripping. I'm going to be reading the whole series! Sadly let down by the performer who,though she has a lovely voice and engaging manner, can't sustain accents or voices, meaning that the characters get confused. Do persevere though - it would be sad to miss out on a great read because of that.

Interesting intertwined content

A good story
I enjoyed this book, a nice balance of crime drama and human interest. I will look for more books in the series. It’s a shame the narrator was unable to produce credible accents as this did spoil the flow of the narrative.

I did enjoy this book but there are some reservations
Sarah spent so much time vomiting and fainting that I thought she was pregnant too. the cruelty of some of the characters is probably close to the real thing in this kind of set up. making me hope (that in the real world)policing is taking it very very seriously.
