Summary

Four guys. One girl. Dangerous truths.

Now that I maneuvered my parents into giving me the future I wanted, life seems easy. I finally have some freedom to enjoy my senior year without feeling like I'm slowly suffocating under the twisted morals and warped expectations of my parents.

But it's not long until everything starts to fall apart. The pretty lies that kept my world tied up in a pretty red bow? They're starting to unravel.

And not just for me. Something's wrong with Jonah. No matter how I push, he's not letting me or the guys in to help.

Then there's the tension between Thatcher and Beck. Not to mention the sudden change in my friendship with Rhys.

How do you stay afloat when the ugly truths emerge from the pretty lies?

A pleasant surprise

I bought this series after reading the Academy Ghost Bird series. I stopped reading that series after a few books because the plot was repetitive and boring, the lead female was childish (also repetitive), and the author clearly threw in random cliffhangers to get you to fork over more moolah.

While this story is very similar in plot, environment, and characters, it feels more natural. There's no 5 book-long wondering about whether she should kiss him or not. (Seriously...FIVE books.). The LFC has similar familial experiences, but she handles them more naturally...She acknowledges and grows and learns. There's actual movement in the lead characters' relationships.

I guess I'm wanting to impress that, if you followed a link from Ghost Bird to this series, you'll be thankful you did. I am.

Great sequel

Potential spoilers: I liked the book overall great listen and I enjoyed the progression of the romance. However, just a thing that kinda bothered me is the guys incessant need of trying to protect her and make her seem so dainty... like yeah Astrid needed help but still they really baby her. But other than that I love Astrid and all her guys... oddly my fave is Jonah
