Summary
You’ve seen it all before. A malicious online rumor costs a company millions. A political sideshow derails the national news cycle and destroys a candidate. Some product or celebrity zooms from total obscurity to viral sensation. What you don’t know is that someone is responsible for all this. Usually, someone like me.
I’m a media manipulator. In a world where blogs control and distort the news, my job is to control blogs - as much as any one person can.
In today’s culture...
- Blogs like Gawker, Buzzfeed, and the Huffington Post drive the media agenda.
- Bloggers are slaves to money, technology, and deadlines.
- Manipulators wield these levers to shape everything you read, see, and watch - online and off.
Why am I giving away these secrets? Because I’m tired of a world where blogs take indirect bribes, marketers help write the news, reckless journalists spread lies, and no one is accountable for any of it. I’m pulling back the curtain because I don’t want anyone else to get blindsided.
I’m going to explain exactly how the media really works. What you choose to do with this information is up to you.

Fantasitc story, poor narration
The story is mind-blowing, helps better understanding the media. The author narrated it who is not an actor, for me as a non-native he was more difficult to listen to than actor-narrators of other audiobooks.

Fantastic listen
Really informative but the information should come as no shock. If you get your news from blogs and social media you're getting a. Load of crap. However it does raise the question as to who you can actually trust for information. This question is left unanswered........

Outstanding
This should be a must read text in the modern age. I'll be buying several hard copies as presents for family members this Christmas...

a good book worth your time.
I liked the frank and honest opinions held in it mixed with experiences detailed in this book. It is potent, precise and informative. It felt like a modern updated mix of Homege to Catalonia, and Media Control by George Orwell and Noam Chomsky.

More relevant than ever
Listened after reading this book in 2013 and it’s probably more relevant now as a warning than it was then.

Great read for anyone in PR or digital media.
Narration wasn’t bad by the author, I see some complaining here. It was a very insightful read, worth the money / credit.

Should be mandatory in schools
This book exposes how the whole media twists facts to get clicks and ad revenue (no matter the size). It is an eye opener and gives an easy to understand how all media works and how to be skeptical of what they say. Also useful for self defense in this cancel culture. One of my favourite books!
