Outstanding book excellent research. True premise.
This is a scathing and thought provoking critique of the cancerous relationship between the media and government /intelligence, and the parasitic dependence the mainstream media platforms have on fear, outrage, and anger. It also examines how, Simply put, the Internet has forced traditional media to compete for clicks, eyes (thus revenue) by evolving ever more into an outrage machine catering towards carefully defined opposing demographics. Fuelling in flaming and in some cases constructing scandal and fear. Then providing the enemy within: the opposite side of the politcal aisle. Red/Blue tribalism. The enemy within. And they have done it with aplomb to the tune of billions of dollars.
Manufacturing consent has evolved into manufacturing Hate.
This generation's manufacturing consent is HATE INC.

Ear opening stuff
the book really grips you from the start with the most obvious accounts of media bias and goes into great detail with anecdotes and examples to back it up. book weakens near the end with boring interviews in my opinion also might be a little hard for people living outside USA to relate but never the less worth a listen.

Political book by an honest journalist!
I often disagree with Matt Taibbi but find that everything he writes is worth reading and giving strong consideration. I agree with most of HATE, INC. I do wish, however, that in this book that he had focused not just on MSNBC and Fox but also on CNN which is just as guilty as the others. Taibbi is from the left side of the political spectrum and I am fro the right side but we both have libertarian leanings so maybe that's why we see much of politics and journalism in the same way. Most of all I like and appreciate Taibbi's honesty even when I disagree with his perspective.
Hate, Inc. is an important book about US politics and journalism that deserves a huge audience.

Skip the Book and Read Appendix 1
He offers a terrific perspective. He’s tainted by his own bias but still does very well considering. He felt the need to explain his comments about liberals but doesn’t do the same for conservatives. He often says ‘People might think..’ or ‘My friends won’t like..’ In doing this. Perhaps I’m too naive to think anyone can truly be unbiased but it is exactly that I seek. I am a conservative but crave a real and true bond with my liberal counterparts to keep our elected leaders in check in the best interest of our great country. I have no doubt we are all being manipulated by (both) elites. K. Ball said it best, ‘We need to start hating each other less and hating elites more.’

He's Right... And Left... and Correct
Since all of us seem to have fallen into the maws of one or another great ideology, we've become equally reluctant to even sample the ideas of wafting from the competition's thinkers. Reluctant? Hell, we dismiss, even 'hate' those thinkers because of their origins.
So who's Taibbi aiming his argument at... and from what silo is he coming?
Regardless of your ideological group, you'll find something to disturb you here. Which means Taibbi's doing his job. While his critique comes from the left, his conclusions will make both sides squirm. I'm a Republican Conservative Trump voter. GASP! I strongly disagree with the way Taibbi characterizes my President. GASP... GASP... GASP!!! But yet, this book is not about Trump, nor Clinton, nor Biden, nor Democrats/Republicans/Conservatives/Progressives or... or... just keep on adding tribes to the list.
It is about the mechanics of journalism. I've also spent a lot of my career in the media. Matt Taibbi makes me squirm. I should. He is absolutely, precisely correct in his explanation of the dynamics of the industry and its denizens. In spite of the discomfort of confronting Mr. Taibbi's politics, I'm nagging every Democrat and Republican... Progressive. Libertarian and Conservative to read this book. Unless we confront Matt Taibbi's thesis, America is finished and so too might be civilization.
Yep, big thoughts here, well presented and read.

Insightful, but his personal bias keeps it from being a serious work
It’s unfortunate, but his unprofessional, vulgar, personal bias against Trump and Fox, and his kid glove good treatment of CNN, in particular, overshadow what, otherwise, might have been a insightful expose’ of the “bought & paid for” press & media today. None the less, if one wants to understand what has happened to the press and media ,and why we can’t believe anything that we hear or read, this is a good start.

How The Sausage Is Made.
I typically watch both FOX and CNN, just to see the different topics being reported but after reading Hate Inc, I only see their stylistic similarities. You may know these partisan tactics are being used but suppress acknowledging them. That will be harder to do after you've read Taibbi's book.

I know a thing or two about a thing or two?
I bought the book because of the subject matter and had a few additional questions raised for myself upon completion including (bare with me): Have we neutered our reporters due to the Princess Diana tragedy? and...Can they be more investingstively probing without destroying civil liberties or lives? Is that an oxymoron? I loathed our last election and am looking for variation from the trivial bullshit being spewed in my face. I am also very over the dumbing down and emotionalism being pandered- which this book addresses. This book bordered on being mightily repetitive towards the later half- the reason for my 4 star rating....but maybe the very nature of the subject matter forces a kind of deja-vu to happen. A very apt discussion with the new election looming (or not looming at the moment given COVID priority).

An insightful expose on outrage journalism
I have a lot of respect for Taibbi's willingness to criticize the charlatans on both sides of the spectrum. He spells out the reasons why news producers have chosen sides, and how this polarization has come at the expense of real journalism. He does a good job spreading the blame around, although he has particular contempt for Sean Hannity, Conversely he seems sorry that Rachel Maddow sold her soul for ratings. Furthermore, the Fox News vs. MSNBC thing is a little bit of a false dichotomy because there are so many more left-leaning journalists (by Taibbi's own acknowledgement) and news outlets. CNN was curiously absent from this book. Social media platforms were also absent from this book. I highly recommend this book for any young person who cannot see through the propaganda, or who is wondering why their parents or grandparents complain about the decline of cable news broadcasts. My teenage kids currently have no interest in or Russian collusion, or impeachment, or any part of the cable news outrage cycle. Hopefully when they do come of age, there will be more voices like Taibbi's .

Must read
A must-read in the time of Trump and the hysteria surrounding coronavirus. Matt Taibbi is a modern day cross between Chomsky and Hunter S Thompson — an important contemporary intellectual.
