Story
A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president. Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility. The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

Story
Whether hunting warlords in Japan, druglords in Colombia, or nuclear terrorists in the United States, John Clark is efficient and deadly ? but even he has ghosts in his past, demons that must be exorcised. And nothing is more demonic than the peril he must face as the commander of a covert multi-national anti-terrorism squad known as Rainbow. Almost as soon as the group is formed, three terrorist attacks occur that seem unrelated at first, but may be the beginning of a new brand of terrorism like nothing the world has ever encountered before.

When Moslem fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralise NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuvers to cloak a crash military build-up. When Soviet tanks begin to roll, the West is caught off guard. What looks like a thrust turns into an all-out shooting war, possibly the climactic battle for control of the globe.

Summary
Penguin presents the audio edition of Tom Clancy's Oath of Office by Marc Cameron.
On a crowded tourist beach in Portugal, US operatives use a high-tech drone to watch a French arms dealer flirt with a beautiful woman. It's only when she leaves that they realise she has shot him dead.
In Iran, protests are growing against the oppressive regime, whipped up by a charismatic student. Most external observers are excited, but on the ground a spy of questionable loyalty senses something is badly amiss.
And meanwhile, with the United States reeling from a string of natural disasters, Russian troops and ships are massing on the borders of the Ukraine, bringing the two powers ever closer to war.
Across the globe a conspiracy is brewing, so darkly brilliant that no-one has yet joined the dots. And the distracted President Ryan has little time to play catch-up: little does he know that he faces a madman with a plan more devastating than he could possibly imagine....

A Good listening
This is the second of Marc’s books in the Jack Ryan franchise and much better than the first. It follows the Tom Clancy writing style of starting many story lines and bringing them together
It does make you laugh at times and also keeps you in suspense most of the time. The end like his first book needs working on but I would recommend this book and I think by the summer when his third boos is released he will be there. Scott Brick is amazing as normal I think of him as mr Jack Ryan SNR and JNR

OK story, but not up to Tom Clancy's high standard
The storyline is okay, but as with all the books since Tom Clancy's sad death, it lacks the sophistication, relevant details of the operations and credibility of the plot. The characters have become cliches, the action unbelievable and the dialogue is often cringe-worthy. These books sit well alongside Lee Child (Jack Reacher), Mark Dawson (John Milton) and Mark Greaney (Court Gentry) as being action-packed, but unbelievable romps, but they should not be considered alongside Clancy's books such as Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Rainbow Six. Scott Brick's melodramatic narration continues to disappoint.

Ryan jnr tale, worth a miss, author bored too?
Think the author has exhausted the Russians and Chinese to his limit! Luv the usual characters ie. Ryan and his mates but even this tale of fiction made me think it was a stretch too ridiculous!

It was ok
It is a very formulaic story.
Rather predictable.
padded out a lot with characters who do little.
Ending was very rushed as if a deadline approaching to get all over with.
Narration rather smug and annoying.
As a story to pass the time it was ok.

Just boring
So much technical detail and very little action.
Since the replacement breed of writer has taken over the Clancy universe, has anything actually happened?
This is another book when the first and last page are the same. There is no real peril, no consequences for any characters, no threat to anyone we care about.
Try another author.
