Summary

Marry a man I barely know to save my family from ruin.

It might’ve been simple, if my betrothed were anybody else.

On our wedding day, my husband-to-be arrived at the courthouse like a black cloud rolling over Manhattan. Walt didn’t crack smiles or pepper in pleasantries as we exchanged hollow vows in front of the judge.

His disdain for me was so palpable I assumed we’d walk out of that ceremony and resume our regularly scheduled programming. But then fate was like, Hold my beer. I got this.

In desperate need of help and with nowhere else to turn, I had no choice but to ignore a crucial rule in our contract: I shall only contact Mr. Jennings II in case of emergency. But hey, what’s a little fine print between husband and wife?

Turns out, Walt’s a stickler for legalese - I think it might be his love language. Oh, and his attitude at the courthouse wasn’t a put-on. My so-called husband is a jerk. He takes what he wants without giving any consideration to other people - specifically ME, his blushing, contractually obligated bride!

I knew life with Walt would be no honeymoon, but a marriage of any sort should still come with a few standard guarantees:

To have and to hold.

For richer or poorer.

In sickness and in health.

But after experiencing Walt’s version of wedded bliss, I say let’s forget about all that lovey-dovey crap and just take me straight to death do us part.

She Does It Again

I always love to listen to R. S. Grey’s audiobooks. She does a good job choosing the actor for the character. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed. I really liked the story, but the only thing that I will say negative about it is that I wished we would’ve had Walter‘s POV rather than Elizabeth’s the entire book. That’s unusual for this author as she usually has a POV for both characters. I don’t know what made her decide to do it this way.

Saying that, it still didn’t take away the sweet storyline. It’s not a story that hasn’t been told before, but it still was entertaining, not to mention thar both main characters were likable. I liked the wittiness and spunkiness of Elizabeth. She made me laugh as she irritated Walt with not listening to his demands. She was a tough girl, yet she was still somebody that you can imagine having as a friend.

Walt was the typical “I’m too busy to care” rich guy. Although he comes across as a complete jerk, there’s signs of his gentleness when it comes to Elizabeth.

I really enjoyed both narrators. This is the first time I’ve heard Aubrey Vincent. She did a great job with all the different voices that she had come up with in the book. I wish Alexander could’ve had more speaking parts. I could actually hear his smile as he voices Walt.

Delish Story!

I loved the story and Aubrey was an awesome narrator. The story was sweet and rich with detail and I binge listened to it all day. I was all tingly at the end and then the Walt voice came on and it was so abrupt and off that I nearly fell out of bed. It was bad. The producers should have gotten a smooth sophisticated voice not one that’s better fitted for a gangster story. The kid voices were absurd. I gave it 5 stars for Aubrey’s performance!

not the best

I usually really like this author but this was not her best. I could not connect with either character. you don't hear much from Walt but what you learn about him through Elizabeth I was not impressed with. there was no connection in their relationship. Elizabeth was very immature and bratty until the end. I waited for her to mature and stop expecting Walt to do all the work but nope, she is insecure and immature the ENTIRE book. I dont know why Walt even finds her appealing. she runs away from conflict and expressing herself. It's just not an interesting story unfortunately.

Easy listen

This was a fun and low level drama story. Aubrey was a new narrator for me and I really liked her. The male narrator is horrible but thankfully he only does the epilogue so it didn’t ruin the story for me. If I had to listen to him throughout the whole book, I might have had to stop listening. The only thing that was missing was some kind of closure or resolution with her horrible family.

It was good, but became very frustrating….

The story was decent. I just feel like the female character was so childish and in her own head, it literally took her almost a whole story to open her mouth and speak and say what’s on her mind instead of internalizing it and make everyone guess. It was like pulling teeth, just speak. Her fear of speaking was unjustified and didn’t even make sense. It was almost thrown in at the end to justify her not saying anything. I feel that the story definitely needs some tweaking, but overall there is a story there to be told and it’s a good story, but there was no depth and then very childish behavior. The female character was obviously not my favorite. I feel like the male lead could’ve had strength to him as well.

Good story

A bit frustrating in parts but loved the way they worked it out. True love, needed more epilogue to bring the time gap

love, love, love.

Possibly my favorite by R.S. Grey. Walt and Elizabeth are such a sweet match, and their story is perfect. Narration was *chef’s kiss*
