In the midst of this brutal tide is Fenris, the world of the Space Wolves. Depleted by ever-greater demands on their warriors, called upon by the Legion-breaker Guilliman, the Wolves of Fenris face a momentous decision. Grimnar and his counsellors must choose whether their fate is to ally themselves with an ancient rival and risk all that makes them the Vlka Fenryka or to accept their demise and wait for the return of their own primarch and the coming of the Wolftime.

Great story, really good exploration & expansion of familiar space wolf themes. The really intriguing difference is seeing them & their ways in detail through the eyes of various different outsiders, with varying relationships to them. Great character building & depth, spread across imperial humans, normal citizens of a ‘death world’, and marines, both Primaris and firstborn.
Excellent narration & brilliant pacing. A brilliant entry in the Dawn of Fire series and a worthwhile listen for any fan of the space wolves, even if you haven’t read the other books in the series!

A good novel, and brilliantly narrated.
A lot of good ground covered and I especially appreciated the additional Deep dive into the wolves, primaris but also Girlyman and Fenris.

It’s a shame that ultimately the book meandered a bit, too many plot lines, too little time, the great wolf is undercooked, and a little goofy, it’s a bit long it parts and I think the entire Orkhulk and Ork plot line could’ve been dropped but for the fact the writer had marching orders to foreshadow Thrakka.

Ultimately I think it was a great novel but makes me want to have more details on Fenris, I think the best standout is Giaus battling Fenris itself and the more time dealing with this, fleshing out the Mythlogical creatures and such, would’ve been far more interesting

First Wolves Thunderdome

As per most Warhammer books this one is amazingly performed. The writing itself is also great but the story didn't capture me anywhere near us much as the pervious books in the series. Its exciting to be on the cutting edge of the current lore for the 40k universe but this one just lacked a bit of pace for me. Still worth a listen if you want to be on top of the current lore and stories in the universe.

A slower continuation of the series

Normally Space Wolf novels have a tendency to devolve into overused wolf terminology. This is thankfully not the case in this story. However, the ending does fall a little bit flat. Other than that, an amazing depiction of life on Fenris and the Wolves.

I know that fans of fenris were hoping this was THE Wolftime and the return of Russ but let’s be honest if Russ returns then that is the end of the space wolves so I didn’t expect that at all, it’s a decent story lifted by John Banks superlative narration, we have custodes, & historitors leading us in to the future with their thread and it was great to have the Fell Handed back even if briefly

Really enjoyed it, characters sell the story well, love the central conflict. A worthy Saga one could say

If you like the Space Wolves, you will like this. it also ties in nicely to the Avenging Son story arc. my only criticism is that Audible cant list chapters properly, meaning its easy to skip or miss bits in car mode... as chapter 22 is actually chapter 20 (1 and 2 are intro and prologue). I wish it was smoother to use in the car.

Fantastic insight into the Space Wolves and the balance of fate v pride. Absolutely loved the book, narrator amazing as ever and once again submerged into this amazing 40k series of books! Already downloading the next book in the series!

A clash of world's!

The writer has numerous characters and each gets followed in its own section. In written form the change within a chapter from one character to another would be obvious. In audio, the pause in speaking isn’t long enough and so it gets a bit confusing every transition. The story itself is good enough but is largely exposition on the relationship of the 1st born wolves to the Primaris and wider imperium. Maldovar feels like a different character from what he did in plague war trilogy. The narrator wasn’t bad but his voices were pretty similar for a number of the characters and it was difficult to distinguish them in places, such as when the space wolves leadership are discussing things.
