Summary
Misfortune. Bad luck. Heartache. Devon Thorpe is no stranger to any of them.
After devastating news, Devon’s life becomes a prison of responsibility, heartbreak, and hardship. All her dreams to leave her small town vanish. A prisoner of circumstance.
At her breaking point, Devon has a reckless moment in a diner bathroom with a blue-eyed, sexy stranger. A single encounter with him leaves a deep mark on Devon, giving her only a memory of his touch when nights are lonely, and her life becomes too much to take.
Years later, a terrifying incident takes her and her family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she finds work as a server at a bar to support her mother.
Tattooed, moody, rough, brown-eyed, and sexy-as-hell Lincoln Kessler, the mysterious owner of the saloon, instantly draws Devon in. She can’t let go of the feeling that there is some strange connection between them. But the more Lincoln tries to push her away, the more determined she is to figure out the enigmatic man. One fiery kiss, and Devon realizes she should have stayed away because when their worlds collide and tragedy strikes, she recognizes they are not each other’s savior but each other’s misfortune.
Warning: This is a tear-jerking audiobook about ill-fated love, heartache, loss, and finding your way through the pain. And a lot of bad luck. It is deeply emotional with sensitive subject matter that involves dealing with a crippling mental disease.

The heart knows
The heart knows when you find the other half, and Devon and Lincoln find that in a scorching hot meeting in a bathroom. Fast forward several years and these two find each other again. This is not your typical second chance romance for two souls who have hard times.
Erin Mallon is absolutely amazing as usual. I love that she can do MPOV just as well as her heroines. It’s always a joy hearing any book done by her.
I was lucky to have won this audiobook(back in the summer) and this review is my honest review.

The Unlucky Ones
This is such a great book. Devon is the FMC. She has been dealt a pretty crappy hand in life. She crosses paths with a guy when she was 17 that would change her life. Five years go by and she has not stooped thinking about the guy she met when she was 17. He has also had a hard and unlucky past. She starts a new job and comes face to face with the guy from her past, and he is her new boss. Sparks ignite between them as if they were never put out. They finally become get to be the happy ones. I loved this book and the ending was so great. If you like romances with a rocky start but a HEA this book is for you.

Awesome
This story was one tragedy after and another, but fate stepped in an brought two unlucky strangers in a bathroom for an encounter neither of them will for get. Years later Devon will meet another man that gives her the same feelings a the stranger she meet in that bathroom years before. This time the beautiful sexy man Lincoln was her boss. They try to fight their feelings and Devon's baby sister trying to make moves on Lincoln. There was hints though out this story that makes you guess who Lincoln really. This was an another great story by Stacey Marie Brown an Erin Mallon is one of the best narrators out there and she did an amazing job with this story. This is a must listen!

I enjoyed this book but was expecting a tear-jerking, heartbreaking romance and that wasn't what this book was for me. Yes the situations were sad but it felt like it was missing the connection for me. The illness of the mother should have been heartbreaking but because I was just told over and over that she was sick but we didn't really get to see the relationship between the mother and daughter it was more a sad situation than heartbreaking. I think it would have been heartbreaking if we would have seen and felt the close relationship between them before her mom got sick. The way it happened in the story made her mother's illness seem more a burden then a tragedy.
That being said, I still enjoyed the book very much. I liked the chemistry between Devon & Lincoln. They were like magnets the way they were always drawn to each other. Devon's relationship with her sister was frustrating because she let her sister treat her like a doormat but I was glad the way that all worked out. The ending was sweet even if I had lots of questions about how every thing could have worked out the way it did but I remind myself this is fiction and just because I can't work it out as reality doesn't mean it's an issue.
The narration was perfect as always. Erin Mallon is amazing at single narrated audiobooks since she is so good with the Male voices. I will listened to her narrate anything!!!

The Unlucky Ones
I have really enjoyed other books by Stacey Marie Brown but they were all paranormal so going into this one I didn’t really know what to expect.
Right away you know it is going to have heavy subject matters which is fine, I guess I was expecting more sadness don’t get me wrong it was sad but again given the subject matter and the fact that I am a huge softy I figured I would be sobbing. And I wasn't, I had a tear but not even at the parts I kind would have expected to tear up at.
Devon’s a little too emotionless for me, maybe that was why I didn’t feel the sadness like I thought I would. Her sister needs a good swift kick in the behind I tell you what. I didn’t really feel “sorry” for Devon only because she let it happen to her. She allowed her sister to be a flake and she would just pick up the pieces. I get it she didn’t want to cause more of a riff but hell with everything going on she should have.
Ahh, the connection between Devon and Lincoln and the back and forth waiting for the will they won’t they were probably the best parts for me. Usually, I am all for let’s get it on already but I really liked the waiting game.
Overall a good story one I am glad I listened to because the narration was stellar. Erin’s voices for her males I swear to god that women is 2 people! I loved the narration.

So, so good!
I loved The Unlucky Ones. The story is unconventional and engrossing. I'm enamored by fate meets tangible electricity equaling defying all odds. In real life, do those exist? I'm not sure, but I have hope that anything is possible.
Erin Mallon was the perfect narrator for this book. I finished this in two days, which is saying something because I love audiobooks, but usually only listen while commuting to work. I was so hooked, I listened to this one every possible second. My only wish list item is that the book was in alternating pov. I'd have loved hearing Lincoln's side too.

Wow
You guys! This book... I had to take a couple days to recover before writing my review. I absolutely loved this story! I listen to a TON of audio books so it takes a lot more than it used to to get me to cry and this one had me crying a lot! SO SO many emotions and pain and so real. It was so real I felt like I was living the story with them and that is what I love about books. I get swept away to my own reality for a few, this one did just that.
The narration was PERFECTION. Erin really knows how to nail the character she is playing. She is the BEST!

Why did I wait SO long?
I have been a fan of SMB for, well, a long time now and have read almost everything she has written and she has never written anything I haven't loved!!
The Unlucky Ones has been waiting for me to read it and let me just say I devoured it. This story had me laughing and literally crying and on the edge for most of the book. The characters are complex and raw. The story is heartbreaking and at moments hard to read, or on audio, hard to hear. The story comes full circle and is full of content. Thank you Stacey for another amazing ride!!

Wow! Just Wow
What an amazing journey this book has been. My first by this author but I’m definitely hooked.
The narration was perfect and spot on. The storyline was amazing and intriguing. Sensitive subjects were handled very tactfully and respectfully by the author. The emotions ran high in this book and tears did fall along the way but you still get a HEA ending despite the title.
I loved the characters and the chemistry between them. The sex was perfectly written and hot but not over the top. Don’t pass on this gem of a book. It’s so worth the listen and time investment. You will not want to stop listening.
